Chapter 142 (+25 Bonus)

Irene had assumed Dustin would be like other men—impressed by her beauty and easily swayed to her aid. She expected him to be beaten, like the others. She was wrong. Dustin hadn't intervened out of attraction; he had killed Trevor.

For a moment, everyone in the jazz club was stunned. No one dared offend Trevor, the third son of the Aquila family of Lannopolis. Yet, Dustin had killed him with a single strike. His audacity was unbelievable.

Ignoring the stunned onlookers, Dustin headed for the exit. He didn't even glance at Irene.

"Hold it right there!" someone shouted. "Do you think you can just leave after killing Trevor?"

Trevor's underlings wouldn't let him escape. They moved to stop him. Dustin didn't bother with words. A sharp look and a swift movement, and his assailant was dead. After that, silence reigned. Dustin left the club unimpeded.

Irene snapped back to reality. Seeing Trevor's corpse, she recalled Dustin's brutal efficiency and felt a fresh wave of shock. On impulse, she ran after him.

"Sir, please wait a moment!" she called on the street.

Dustin turned. "What?"

Irene was speechless, momentarily overwhelmed by her impulsive action. She had no real reason to detain him.

Dustin raised an eyebrow, then turned away. Panic seized Irene.

"Sir, I need your help!" she pleaded, following him.

"I can't help you," he replied bluntly. He was in town to kill a family, not assist others.

Irene was taken aback. Accustomed to being readily aided by men, she’d never faced such a callous rejection.

"Sir, I'm a member of the West family of Lannopolis. We'll spare no expense to repay your kindness! Just tell me how much you want!" Irene urged.

"There's no need for that," Dustin replied coldly.

"The West family can get you anything!" she insisted.

"I don't need anything." Dustin quickened his pace.

Irene, desperate and exhausted, ran after him.

"If you help my family, I'll marry you!" she shouted.

Dustin paused, looked at her, shook his head, and continued walking. Irene's face froze. What did that mean? Did he find her unattractive? She was used to admiration; this rejection was unbearable. She didn't know Dustin had encountered countless beautiful women and was largely immune to their charms.

"Sir, you're a fighter! The West family are fighters, like the Fox family of Grayvale ten years ago. We possess their martial arts manual. If you help us, I can give it to you!" she yelled, making a final desperate plea.

This stopped Dustin.

"The Fox family's martial arts manual" he turned, his gaze steady. "How did the West family obtain it?"

Irene felt uneasy under his scrutiny.

"I I'm not sure. Only my grandfather knows" she whispered.

"Take me to your family," Dustin said icily.

Irene, ecstatic, believed he'd agreed to help. She had no idea that Dustin was the sole surviving son of the Fox family.
