Chapter 141: Boyfriend?

Calvin pinned her against the wall, his thin lips curling into a smirk. “Am I your… friend?”

“What was wrong with ‘…’?”

The shirt he was wearing was the one Myrna had bought for him. Upon closer inspection, it was clear he had ironed it neatly and wore it with great care. The hand resting on the corridor pillar; the silver bracelet on his wrist was also bought by Myrna. His eyelids were thin, his gaze restrained. He stood in the way, refusing to move. His voice seemed to stick to one’s ear, teasing like a feather brushing past.

“Isn’t he your brother?”

Before, she used to call me ‘brother’ all the time. Back then, I still knew how to pretend, being so obedient it was unbearable. Now they treated him so casually. His eyes were charming. “Not calling me brother anymore?”

That feeling of irritation rose in Myra’s chest again. Even though everything was fine, she always felt as if her hands and feet were tied whenever she was cornered by him or alone with him. She seriously considered the question, raised her head, and asked in all seriousness, “How about calling you uncle?”

Calvin: …

“Alfi called me sister, I called you brother; you didn’t find it strange. You didn’t want me to call you my friend, so you could only be my uncle.”

Myrna did it on purpose. She knew that saying this would leave the man in front of her dumbfounded, but she didn’t want to be oppressed by the same person every time. That feeling was very unpleasant.

“Little uncle?”

The girl’s voice was husky and soft, not sweet, but very unique. Her eyes were mischievous; it was clear she was deliberately teasing him, like an irritated cat showing its claws, ready to scratch. He savored the term “little uncle” from her mouth; it sounded differently enticing. However, it might not be good if it was too enticing. The generation order was messed up. It would be too troublesome to change the way of speaking in the future.

Calvin withdrew his hand, straightened up, and said with grace, “Forget it, let’s just be friends.”

Won!

Myrna almost couldn’t resist shouting “bingo”; she raised an eyebrow and told him, “I’m going to wash my hands.”

When passing by Calvin, a low, husky voice came from behind. “Mya, I didn’t mind adding another word in front of friend!”

Adding another character before the word ‘friend’, a word surfaced in Myrna’s mind.

Boyfriend!

She stumbled, her body swaying, nearly causing her left foot to collide with her right. Calvin’s voice came through: “…good friend.” Myrna had just stood still when she heard his follow-up. The face turned red instantly.

Damn, I was being overly sentimental! She fled in panic.

A week passed in the blink of an eye. Abbey was still locked up in jail. During that time, Debra visited the Herring family a few times. The last time, she took a scarf, crying and apologizing to her late husband, intending to hang herself at the Herring family’s place. The Herring family was driven crazy by her. Oliva admitted that she owed her a favor. After finding Myrna to be of no help, they sought out the principal of Melcester Central High School. Upon hearing her out, that old slickster Terrell simply excused himself by saying that the person had been sent to the police station and their school had no power to release them. She felt that it was the Payne family applying pressure. She had no choice but to use her family connections, reaching out to the Chief of Melcester Police Department, Clifton Horton. The newly promoted director had a good relationship with the Herring family. His promotion was also related to the efforts of the Herring family. It could be said that he was one of their own. She had explained Abbey’s situation to Clifton, adding that the Payne family was also involved. Clifton had immediately agreed, promising to release the person before long. She had just put her mind at ease. Had Abbey’s mom go back to wait to pick people up, and then made plans to have dinner with Clifton again.
