Chapter 197: The Surgery

In the sickroom, Myrna saw the little one had fallen asleep, clutching the “gum” bottle she had given him. Seeing the tear stains on his eyelashes, his eyes painfully closed, and his restless sleep, she knew from the way he was biting his lip that he hadn't had the heart to eat the little sugar pills she had given him. Myrna saw the tears hanging on his eyelashes; her heart clenched, and unconsciously, she lightened her movements, afraid of waking the little one on the sick bed.

“Did you come back?”

Upon seeing Myrna return, the head of orthopedics was the first to rise from the bedside, walk over, furrow his brows, and stare at Myrna with a serious face, expressing his dissatisfaction. “Ms. Stark, I know you may have learned some medical skills under certain circumstances, but treating patients and casually learning medical skills are two different things!”

“Our doctors emphasize the golden hour in saving lives. Once a patient misses the optimal treatment time, even if surgery is performed later, the results are barely satisfactory. I hope you take this matter seriously!”

It wasn’t that he had any issues with Myrna; it was mainly that, as a doctor, he sincerely hoped his patients would be safe and sound. Moreover, this little child was as beautiful as ice and snow, which made people feel pity for him.

As a doctor, of course, I wanted to cure him. But Alfredo had a special status; the treatment method he proposed was not satisfactory to the Larson family, and he, as a doctor, did not dare to make decisions on his own. Watching the golden time for surgery passing by every second, he became so anxious that he couldn’t help but lash out at Myrna. After losing his temper, he himself also realized that what he did was wrong. The other party was just a high school girl; she hadn’t even attended college. They were the real doctors, and it was truly uncouth of them to lose their temper at a high school student. He rubbed his brow, apologizing to Myrna again, “I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have lost my temper with you.”

“Ms. Stark, tell me the truth, did you actually have a better way to treat this little brother?” He looked serious. “If not, I hope you tell Mr. Larson the real situation outside. We can still rush to operate on the little brother… Although the result may not satisfy him, it’s the best we can do. We will do our utmost!”

The orthopedics team didn’t voice it, but they agreed with him in their hearts. About ten people all looked at Myrna, waiting for her response. They could tell that Mr. Stark trusted her immensely. If she didn’t clarify, the surgery today couldn’t be done.

Myrna didn’t respond to them immediately. Instead, she walked to the bedside and wiped the undried tear stains from the little one’s eyelashes with a piece of paper. She threw the tear-wiped paper into a nearby trash can. When she turned back, she had lost the gentleness that had filled her face just a moment ago. With one hand in her pocket, she looked both beautiful and cool.

“Sorry to have kept you waiting for so long.”

“I had gotten what I needed; let’s prepare for the surgery.”

The lights in the operating room came on, turned from green to red. This time, it was still Calvin and Cedric waiting outside. However, compared to the last time, Cedric was much calmer this time, especially after knowing that Myrna was the legendary divine doctor of Melcester; he became even more composed! After all, when it came to Mr. Alfredo’s condition, there was no one else in the whole of Melcester who could treat it, except for Myrna! As for the outcome, he could only think optimistically, hoping that Ms. Stark could cure Mr. Alfredo.

The surgery lasted a full four hours; the sky outside transitioned from a fish-belly white to complete darkness, with the night sky hanging high. Yvette Larson had hustled all the way from Nemmington, took a plane and landed in Melcester, then rushed from the airport to the hospital without stopping.

Upon seeing Cedric and the others, despite her exhaustion, she anxiously asked, “Calvin, where’s Alfi? Where is Alfi?”
