Chapter 31: Are You Myma?

Melcester Central High School was a famous school with a hundred-year history. Each year, several students gained admission to Craydon and Nemmington Universities, and it boasted many distinguished alumni. It was the best school in Melcester.

It was the beginning of the new semester, and the school gate was crowded. Many parents drove their children to register. Among all the cars, Luther’s new blue Bentley was the most eye-catching. Many parents looked on curiously and enviously. Luther and Stephanie were proud, happily accepting the admiring glances.

Myrna merely glanced at the scene before entering the school with her single-shoulder bag, acting as if she didn't know Luther and Stephanie. However, from afar, Stephanie spotted someone in blue clothing and recognized Myrna’s back. She pulled Luther, pointed, and said, “Dad, is that Myrna? It looks like her.”

Luther followed Stephanie’s gaze, but Myrna had already disappeared into the crowd. He frowned and said casually, “It’s none of our business. Anyway, she won’t be in your class. Pretend you don’t know her when you see her at school.”

Stephanie smiled slightly, hiding her disdain. Standing beside Luther, she obediently agreed. She thought, “Well, Myrna may get into Class D or F. Maybe she’ll even be assigned to Class Stephanie. Myrna and I are so different. I’m so much better.” Her mood immediately improved. Her friends were nearby, and she soon forgot about Myrna, chatting with Abbey and others.

Myrna arrived at the principal’s office and knocked.

“Come in,” a voice called.

Myrna opened the door. The principal’s office was spacious and bright. A row of green plants stood before a large desk; bookshelves lined the walls, filled with what appeared to be numerous classics. She closed the door behind her.

More than one person was in the office. The first to greet Myrna was a man in his early forties, carrying a file. His hair was thinning on top, and his skin was tanned, but his eyes were bright and serious. Seeing Myrna, he paused, lowered his head to examine the file, and asked, “Myrna Stark, is it?”

The file contained a profile photo taken in a dark place at a bad angle. The girl in the picture looked unkempt, her face unclear. The director of teaching and discipline looked at Myrna’s pretty face; she appeared untamed and casual, nothing like the girl in the photograph.

“Are you Myrna?” he asked.

Myrna raised an eyebrow casually. “Yes, I am. Nice to meet you, sir.”

Clearly, Myrna was not an obedient student.

“Okay. Please sit here and wait a minute.”

Other teachers were in the office, sorting through materials for the new semester. When Myrna entered, their attention turned to her. Elaine, too, was observing Myrna. Seeing the girl with the director, Elaine was momentarily shocked and doubtful. She elbowed a fellow teacher and whispered, “Cameron, is this the new transfer student?”

The Class C teacher, a seemingly simple and honest man, looked at Myrna curiously. “There’s only one transfer student this semester. Since she’s here, I guess she’s the one. This girl is pretty and looks clever. I wonder how good her grades will be.”
