Chapter 36: You Are Finally Here

Myrna packed her things quickly. She picked up her phone from the table and said hurriedly, “Yeah. Thank you.”

“But the teacher…”

Before Rachel finished speaking, her new deskmate had already left. Myrna didn’t even look back. Rachel was worried. There would be an opening ceremony later, and she feared the teachers would discover Myrna’s absence.

An underground auction house in Melcester. At the moment, various luxury cars were parked outside the unassuming bar. Myrna paid the taxi driver, casually bought a cap at the street corner, and put it on. The cap covered most of her face, revealing only her delicate lower jaw. She followed the bustling crowd inside.

“You are finally here!” Denise Taylor saw Myrna in the crowd immediately. She pulled Myrna’s arm and said, “Hurry up. The auction has already started.”

The bar looked shabby from the outside, but inside, it was vastly different. It was large and featured an auction block in the middle. Besides that, there were small, separated private rooms. People in the rooms could clearly see the auction items, but those outside could not see anything inside the rooms. Someone was checking invitations at the entrance. Myrna took a look; the security guards’ pockets were full, and it seemed they had guns.

Myrna thought, “Martin’s place is nice.” She put her hands in her pockets and followed Denise in, looking relaxed.

Room B2.

Neilson Cooper was restless. From time to time, he looked at Calvin, who, however, looked down, seemingly uninterested in the auction. He was playing with his e-cigarette. Calvin’s face was good-looking and charming, but his eyes were filled with violence. His strong wrists were visible beneath his sleeves; a beaded bracelet was eye-catching.

“Calvin, the auction is half over. Aren’t you going to buy something?” Neilson asked.

Calvin raised his eyelids and glanced down. Without moving, he said, “It’s not time yet.”

Cedric, standing beside Calvin like a bodyguard, explained in a low voice, “Mr. Cooper, the item Mr. Larson wants isn’t auctioned yet.”

Neilson pressed his lips, wanting to ask Cedric what Calvin wanted. But Calvin wasn’t an ordinary person, and he and Neilson weren’t close. So, Neilson held back her questions, waiting.

Time passed. Finally, a different person came onto the stage. The auctioneer in charge of the early sale left, replaced by a young man, probably 25, with a harmless face. However, he wore a necklace with a skull pendant, which clashed with his demeanor.

“Next, we are going to auction an unusual item. I believe many of you came for it today. I won’t waste your time. Let’s start.”

Two sleek models, about 1.7 meters tall, brought a plate to the table and unwrapped the red cloth. It was a piece that looked like both meat and mushrooms.

“A kilogram of Ganoderma lucidum. The seller entrusted me to sell it. The starting price is 400 thousand dollars, with bids increasing by at least 20 thousand dollars at a time.”

Neilson, who had been in Melcester for a long time, saw the legendary Ganoderma lucidum for the first time. He was dumbfounded. He wanted to ask about it.

At that moment, Calvin, who hadn’t bought anything yet, suddenly said, “Eight hundred thousand dollars.” He raised the price by 400 thousand dollars at once.

Neilson paused. Then, he understood why Calvin had brought him. He stood up and called…
