Chapter 38: Myrna’s Second Identity
When the staff downstairs called out Room B2’s bid—$2 million—the whole place buzzed with excitement.
“Mr. Larson, I got it.”
Soon, Cedric went back to Room B2. “Who is it?” Neilson felt a little embarrassed that he hadn’t secured the item. He didn’t look happy.
Cedric didn’t look at Neilson. He reported directly to Calvin, “The bidder in the next room is the president of the Taylor Group, Denise Taylor.”
“The Taylor Group?” Calvin was lost in thought. He touched his beaded bracelet, rubbing the round beads with his fingers. He squinted slightly. “What does she want Ganoderma lucidum for?”
“Sorry, I don’t know.”
The Taylor Group was famous in Nemmington. Initially, it thrived selling diamonds. Later, after establishing itself in Nemmington, the company diversified into various industries and invested heavily in numerous projects. It excelled particularly in the cinema industry, operating 30% of the country’s cinemas. The Taylor family itself was somewhat renowned in Nemmington, but internal competition over family assets ultimately led to its decline.
Chapter 5: Myrna’s Second Identity
Back then, Denise was ousted from the Taylor family by her brothers. People assumed the strong woman wouldn’t recover, but they were wrong. Denise turned the corner and returned with the Taylor Group; conversely, the Taylor family was not as successful as before.
Obviously, Neilson had heard of the Taylor Group. He paused, approached Calvin, and said, “The Taylor Group? I remember my brother’s girlfriend’s family has close ties to that company. I heard the Taylor Group has been collaborating with the Stark family on its recent cinema construction projects.”
The auction was nearing its end. Neilson turned and said, “It’s pointless to continue bidding. I’ll have my brother’s girlfriend’s father speak to the president of the Taylor Group. Perhaps she’ll be willing to give the Ganoderma lucidum to you.”
“2 million dollars going twice!”
The auctioneer shouted, “This is the last chance. Is there anyone who wants to bid? It’s about to be over.”
“2 million dollars going thrice!”
The hammer fell heavily. Ganoderma lucidum was sold.
For the first time, Calvin lost. Cedric had never seen that before. He wanted to take a picture, but he didn’t dare. It was unusual for Calvin not to get what he wanted. Cedric actually admired Denise in that moment.
Calvin stood up and looked down at the stage. He smoothed his clothes. His mood was hard to discern from his handsome face. “Forget it. I can get Ganoderma lucidum elsewhere. I’ll buy it when I see it next time. I have things to do and should go now.” Calvin knew it was time to pick Myrna up from school.
He took his e-cigarette from the table and went out.
At that same time, Denise secured the item she wanted. She smiled and said to Myrna, “I’ll pay the money.”
“Okay.” Myrna lowered her head, checked her phone, packed her things, stood up, and said to Denise, “It’s almost school time. Denise, you handle the rest. I need to go back.”
Denise knew Myrna liked to be alone. She waved her hand. “Okay. You can go now. I’ll send it to the clinic for you when I get it.”
“Okay.” Myrna nodded and casually slung her single-shoulder bag onto her shoulder. She lowered her cap to cover her delicate face, revealing only her jaw.
It wasn’t Myrna’s first visit to Martin’s auction house. After the auction, many people were leaving. Myrna exited with the crowd.
The sun set quickly, casting its light on the road. Myrna pursed her lips, walked casually, and checked her mobile phone. There were no missed calls.
As Myrna was about to hail a taxi to return to school, she heard a musical voice.
