Chapter 54: Just a Country Bumpkin

Celia watched the drama unfold from the sidelines. Her refusal to intervene stemmed purely from her disdain for Myrna, deeming such a minor character unworthy of her attention. With Leann, her foster mother, present, all she needed to do was watch the show.

After a moment of stunned silence, the head teacher recovered, furrowed his brows, and asked, “Mrs. Stark, don’t you think expulsion is a bit too harsh?”

Leann fiddled with her bag, not even deigning to glance at Myrna, as if Myrna were a stain that embarrassed her. She leisurely replied, “Principal, I hope you consider the feelings of us parents. Why do we donate libraries and cafeterias to the school? Isn’t it so that our children can study in a good environment?”

“I won’t even mention Myrna skipping classes, leaving early, or encouraging her classmates to lie. But shouldn’t your school give us parents an explanation about her getting into a fight outside and causing trouble at the police station yesterday?”

Elaine chimed in, “Yes, Director, our school should give an explanation to the parents. Otherwise, it’s hard to justify.”

“But…”

Myrna, inherently impatient with such trivial matters, was interrupted by her phone ringing. It was a message from Martin, informing her that Denise had delivered the medicine to the clinic and asking when she would pick it up.

The bickering continued in the office.

Myrna suddenly interrupted, “You’re going to confess, aren’t you?”

Leann exuded an air of superiority, disdain etched on her face. She retorted, “Shouldn’t you owe us and your school’s teachers an explanation?”

“Deal!”

Myrna took out her phone and made a call in front of them.

“Hello, this is Myrna. If it’s convenient for you, could you please come to Melcester Central High School?”

The entire office fell silent. Leann watched as Myrna walked to the sofa and sat down, pulling out her phone to play a game, even with the teacher present.

That attitude suggested he didn’t care about himself at all.

Leann couldn’t swallow this insult. She was just a country bumpkin from a mountain ravine. If not for her Rh-negative blood, she would have been adopted by their family and still be in her hometown of River Town, unable to afford books.

What qualifications did Myrna have to show off in front of her?

She pulled out her phone with a stern face and said indifferently, “Good, I also have a call to make. I remember there’s a police station near Melcester Central High School. I’d like to see if the people you call can help you erase all your criminal records at the police station!”

She calmly took out her phone and dialed the police station’s number in front of everyone.

The atmosphere in the room was heavy. Apart from Celia, who enjoyed the spectacle, the rest of the teachers from Melcester Central High School looked at each other in dismay; none of them had expected things to turn out this way.

Not long after, the police arrived.

“Knock knock!”

“We were from the police station.”

In the Office of Academic Affairs, about ten people watched the door. The head teacher looked worried, frequently glancing at Myrna. Myrna remained still, holding her phone as if playing with it, showing no reaction at all, as if she didn’t know fear.

“Hmph! Still pretending!”

Leann snorted, rose gracefully—more enthusiastic than any teacher from Melcester Central High School—and beckoned the police in, “Come in quickly.”

Gary entered with the officer, surprised to see a dozen people in the room, thinking they were having a meeting. He caught sight of a rebellious-looking girl in the corner and exclaimed, “Myrna?” He had thought she was still in class and had come to deal with a public alarm. Unexpectedly, she was also here.
