Chapter 67: They Would Surely Agree

Leann watched her drink the chicken soup, took the empty bowl, and replied indifferently. “What do you need your dad for? He’s been busy lately; he has a meeting tonight, and he might come back late.”

“Oh.”

Stephanie wasn’t surprised. It was normal for her father to be busy, given the significant growth of their family business over the past few years and its successful stock market listing.

She recalled what Neilson had told her that night and casually said, “Neilson heard that our family has a good relationship with the Taylor Group, and he asked me for a favor. He said that a few days ago, he attended an auction where the head of the Taylor Group bid for a precious herb. A big shot from Nemmington also wanted it, and he wanted us to speak to the Taylor Group to see if they could give the herb to the Cooper family.”

She had been dating Lawson for so long, yet the Coopers had always been lukewarm toward her. They neither acknowledged nor denied her status; their attitude was ambiguous. Neilson had finally asked her to do something, and she was determined to do it well, to regain her pride in front of the Cooper family!

Stephanie attached great importance to this matter, asking, “Mom, when Dad comes back tonight, you must talk to him about this. Make sure he convinces the people from the Taylor Group to release the medicinal materials. We can even pay more.”

Leann didn’t take it to heart, patting her hand. Comforting her, she said, “Don’t worry, we’ve always had a good relationship with the Taylor Group. They’ve entrusted us with the construction of all their cinemas. This is just a small matter; they will definitely agree.”

Stephanie finally showed a satisfied smile and said, “Mom, I’m going upstairs to wash up and sleep.”

“Go on.”

Leann watched her go upstairs, then walked to the house phone. She hesitated for a moment, then called Luther, telling him about the matter Stephanie had entrusted to her.

The next day…

The principal’s office at Melcester Central High School.

Hattie received the news early in the morning and, without supervising the morning classes, rushed to the principal’s office.

“Knock knock.”

She knocked twice, and the principal’s voice sounded from inside.

“Come in.”

Hattie opened the door and walked in.

“Principal, was it you who approved Adrian’s leave of absence to return to school and continue his studies?”

Terrell Griffith saw her come in with a face full of anger. He put down his pen, leaned back in his leather chair, and chuckled. “Ms. Benson, don’t be so tense. Adrian’s previous performance wasn’t bad; he just missed some classes. He’ll catch up gradually.”

The veins on Hattie’s forehead were throbbing as she protested vehemently, “Principal!”

“It wasn’t just one or two classes that Adrian missed; he took a full three months off from school!”

Terrell still had that same jovial expression, like a Maitreya Buddha: “It’s only three months; we’ll make it up quickly.”

“But the school exams were about to start immediately!”

“By then, all the classes would have released their results. Our class already had a Myrna, and now we have Adrian, who took a three-month leave of absence. How do you expect us to compete? Class A has always been the best class in Melcester Central High School. If we lose to other classes at the beginning of the school year, I would have no face to continue leading Class A.”

Her words were filled with righteous indignation, making it difficult for Terrell to casually brush her off. He sighed and had no choice but to tell her the truth: “Ms. Benson, Adrian is definitely coming back to school, and he will return to his original class. There’s no room for negotiation on this matter. I’ll tell you this: I don’t have the authority to decide on this matter either.”

The Clough family personally sought him out, intervening to ask the school to give him face. Who would dare to refuse?
