Chapter III +15 BONUS
Not long ago, Jessica and Chris had argued in the carโone wanted a divorce, the other disagreed; one wanted to leave, the other tried to prevent him from leaving. No matter how one looked at it, it seemed like it was about to end. But now, surprisinglyโฆ
The driver shook his head helplessly, somewhat envious that young couples still had this kind of intimacy. People like them only worked to make a living and had no time to quarrel. But he felt that Jessica was a nice person, and Chris was equally kind; he hoped the two could live a happy life together.
Chris helped Jessica take off her clothes, then wiped her face with a warm towel. Jessica had rushed urgently to the scene of the accident and had long since removed her makeup, only wearing sunglasses when she left. After cleaning up, Jessica muttered a couple of words and then turned around, falling into a deep slumber. Chris got changed and, on the contrary, became more alert. He went to the study, opened the computer, organized the details of the nightโs surgery, and sent them to the email addresses of the department heads, asking them to add more details one by one. If any rejection or complication occurred in future surgeries, they could find the problem as quickly as possible. He worked all night, and everyone else went home to rest. Unexpectedly, the fastest to reply was Ashley. Through the email, he sent Chris his WhatsApp, and the two added each other.
Ashley: โMr. Green, youโre still awake.โ
Chris: โJust got back with Ms. Wilder. Itโs your day off. Why are you still awake?โ
Ashley: โI was called out to breakfast. By the way, I found a problem with one of the orthopedic nurses during surgery today.โ
Chris: โOh?โ
All department nurses were carefully selected, mostly the top students from the nursing schools. The Summit Infirmary offered far better benefits than other hospitals, so everyone fought to become nurses there, both men and women. Those who stayed naturally had some talent. Ashley felt it was hard to explain, so he called. Chris hurriedly got up and closed the study door to avoid waking Jessica.
โWhat is it?โ asked Chris.
Ashley leaned against the street corner, smoking and watching his boyfriend going to buy breakfast. He exhaled a puff of smoke as he spoke. โEmergency room nurses adapt quickly to various symptoms, but today I noticed one nurseโs movements were veryโฆ not just slow, but seemed deliberately trying to waste time.โ
Chris frowned and asked, โIs she just unfamiliar with the job?โ
โIโm not sure. After the surgery, I asked the head nurse if that nurse was new. The head nurse said no, sheโs been working for a year.โ
Could it be intentional?
The two fell silent. A manโs voice came from across the street, asking Ashley who he was calling.
โThe director of our hospital.โ
The man responded with a nod and seemed to have led him into a quiet room. โHave something to eat first, then go home and get some rest."
โIt was something that just came to my mind, so I thought Iโd tell you. The nurseโs name might be Nancy,โ
โI understand. Thank you,โ said Chris.
Ashley had just started to chuckle when the man stuffed something into his mouth. โWeโre both working for Ms. Wilder, Iโm getting paid, so shouldnโt I be doing my job?โ
After hanging up, the man sitting opposite Ashley looked up at him. โMs. Wilder again?โ
Ashley shook his head.
โItโs her husband.โ
โWhat? Ms. Wilderโs married? Why didnโt you ever mention that?โ
โSheโs been married a long time ago. Her husbandโs our hospitalโs Honorary Chairman. Heโs very skilled in surgery, decisive and neatโa genius in the medical industry.โ
When Jessica opened her eyes, it was already past 10 oโclock in the morning. Chris was still asleep beside her. She quietly and carefully lifted the covers and got out of bed.
