Chapter 157

For reasons she couldnโ€™t explain, Megan actually did open the album, and what she saw scared her so much she dropped the phone on the floor. Inside were photos of her son. Megan looked at Chrisโ€“he was the one she trusted most right now.

โ€œThe clothes in the photo were what my son wore this morning. It was a picture of him eating at school. The time mustโ€™ve been around 3 or 4 in the afternoon, which means the person probably took the photo and came straight to the hospital afterward.โ€

After seeing the photos, Megan was completely stunned and frozen on the spot, not knowing what to do. She stood there dazed for a long time until the phone rang again. This time, Megan answered immediately. It was still the same man on the line.

โ€œFind a quiet place. We need to talk properly. If you want your son to stay safe, youโ€™d better do as I say.โ€

Megan didnโ€™t doubt him for a second and quickly went into the pharmacy.

โ€œI went to the pharmacyโ€™s lounge. At that time, I was the only one thereโ€“everyone else was on break. I rushed in and shut the door to take the call.โ€

The man on the phone said that from now on, Megan had to do whatever he asked. He told her to get medicine for them and place it in a specific location. In fact, at first, Megan refused.

โ€œI knew what I was doing was illegal. And without a doctorโ€™s signature, if I took the medication, it would be traced straight back to me.โ€

But the man said not to worry. Since they were asking Megan to do this, they would make sure everything else was ready. The first operation happened about two weeks later.

โ€œThere was no phone call this timeโ€“just a text message and another photo of my son. He was still wearing the same clothes from that day. Once I saw the photo, I could only follow the instructions."

I remember that time, it was for a heart disease patient. I took antidepressants and swapped them for the heart meds.โ€

Roy wrote down that patientโ€™s name, planning to investigate later. After it was done, Meganโ€™s account received a deposit. It seemed that this person didnโ€™t just threaten herโ€“they paid her too. It was the stick and carrot tactic.

Roy shook his head. As someone wellโ€“versed in the law, he said, โ€œThis way, Megan became an accomplice to the crime. If she hadnโ€™t taken the money, she would have been considered a coerced party, someone acting under duress. But once she took payment, she became complicit. That guy deliberately dragged her down with him.โ€

They hadnโ€™t expected him to be so scheming. But the more they heard, the less it sounded like something Luke would be capable of. After all, Luke didnโ€™t seem sharp enough to carry out a scheme like this. Chris found it strange.

Megan continued, โ€œThe second time was about two months later. Honestly, I wasnโ€™t as afraid that time. After the request, I was so terrified I couldnโ€™t sleep for days, scared the police would come for me.โ€

โ€œBut you still cost someone their life,โ€ Roy said coldly. โ€œYou should be afraid. No matter what you did, you broke the law.โ€

Megan lowered her head.

โ€œThe second person seemed to have fallen down the stairs during work hours. They lost consciousness and had a brain hemorrhage. Following his instructions again, I switched out the medication that caused the death. Later, I went to check, and there really was a doctorโ€™s signature.โ€

โ€œWho was it?โ€ Chris asked.

โ€œHector Wood,โ€ Megan answered immediately.

The name sounded familiarโ€“Chris had probably worked with him before. He immediately looked Hector up in the internal system.

โ€œCardiology,โ€ said Chris.

โ€œAfter that Janet was taken away.โ€

Hoy got straight to the point.

โ€œWhat about Mandy? Was she your next target?โ€
