Chapter 163
They had finally found the hard drive.
The next second, he slapped Jack on the back of the head.
"What have you all been doing? Just picking it up and looking at it? If the victim hoped you'd come to save her, sheโll probably be very disappointed."
Jack covered the back of his head, his voice low.
"I even shook it to be sure there was nothing inside!"
This kind of hard drive had weight; shaking it would definitely make a sound.
Chris stood up holding the hard drive, and Francesca immediately ordered someone to clean up the mess on the floor and plug in the newly brought air purifier.
"Mandy hid it very carefully. She placed the hard drive inside the roots, surrounded by stems. You wouldnโt find it if you donโt empty the whole pot."
It seemed Mandy had anticipated this day long ago and had hidden the hard drive during her hospitalization. She also knew the police would search her house without success and then think to check the hospital. She was truly a smart girl.
"Do you want to take it back to the station and check whatโs inside?" Chris handed the hard drive to Roy.
Roy glanced at the time; it had been over 35 hours since Mandy was kidnapped. They couldnโt delay any longer.
"No, go upstairs to your office and check it there. After you finish, make a copy." He turned to Jack. "Have Mandyโs parents contact the kidnappers and tell them the hard drive has been found. Set the meeting place and start the operation."
"Okay."
The group left in a hurry, while Roy and Chris took the elevator upstairs.
"What do you think is inside?" Roy asked Chris.
Chris looked at the rising floor numbers.
"Whatโs there to guess? The thingโs already in our hands. Weโll just take a look and find out."
Chapter 163
He had just messaged Jessica, saying the hard drive had been found.
Seeing his message, Roy said, "Tell Jennifer to get ready. If whatโs on the hard drive is really that important, Mandy probably set a password. Weโll need Jennifer to crack it."
Chris didnโt even look up.
"We probably will need Jenniferโs help."
Jessica: "Jennifer and I are heading to the hospital now. You guys wait there."
Chris: "Okay, be careful on the way."
They plugged the hard drive into the computer. Roy wasnโt very skilled in this area, but he could still find a file easily enough. At the bottom of several folders, they finally found a highly encrypted file. They opened it, and the screen went black, showing several empty spaces. Roy and Chris exchanged a glance; as expected, a password was required.
This suggested Mandy must have had some IT skills. It wasnโt just simple encryption. If the password was entered incorrectly, the hard driveโs contents would be forcefully wiped clean with no trace left. It would even retaliate by infecting the opposing computer with a virus.
"At Mandyโs level, she must have known a lot of secrets and had many talented people around her," said Chris.
"Didnโt expect we could uncover this much."
Jessica and Jennifer took her exclusive elevator upstairs without encountering anyone. They pushed open the door and entered the office. The two people inside immediately made room for Jennifer. Without even looking, Jennifer sat down and began typing on the computer. The password page on the screen was covered by a different programming interface. The entire office was so quiet that only the sound of Jenniferโs typing could be heard.
"Not bad, Mandy is quite a pro. The reverse virus she planted is quite advanced. Iโve hardly seen this level of virus in the country; she probably brought it back from abroad with the hard drive."
Roy didnโt care about the virus, only the encrypted content.
"How long until you crack the password?"
Jenniferโs eyes never left the screen.
"15 minutes."
