When they came in from outside, they saw a few more people standing inside the roomโapparently they had entered only when Chris went to find Jessica.
Jessica glanced over once and went straight upstairs, but Chris didnโt rush to leave.
Albert took some things from a few of the people and put them down on the floor, then came over and whispered to Chris, โTheyโre all people who have cooperated with the Wilder Group. One of them has maintained medical equipment for the Summit Infirmary for over five years.โ As he spoke, Albert pointed to one of the men.
That was a bit surprising.
Of course, everyone who came to visit had some relation to the Wilder Group, but he hadnโt expected someone from the Summit Infirmaryโs equipment maintenance company.
Chris glanced over.
That man seemed quite perceptive. As soon as he saw Chris, he immediately came forward with a bright smile. โYou must be Mr. Green. Iโm Harris Murphy. Our company is responsible for all the medical equipment maintenance at the Summit Infirmary. Last time I went to the hospital, you had already left work.โ
He looked fairly young and was quite smooth in his approach.
Chris wasnโt the type to be good at handling business matters, so he could only respond with a smile to Harrisโs enthusiasm.
โThe contract for next year hasnโt been signed yet. I wanted to find a time to visit Mr. Green in person.โ
Chris glanced at Linda.
She was sitting on the sofa, chatting happily with one of the female visitors.
Only then did Chris turn his attention back to Harris.
โSince itโs the holiday period now, we wonโt discuss work matters. As for next yearโs contract, we can talk at the hospital after work resumes. This isnโt the place to discuss business.โ
Harris was momentarily stunned but quickly nodded and said, โOkay, sure. Youโre right, Mr. Green. I see you have guests here, so Iโll be leaving now.โ
Albert escorted the man to the door, then returned.
Chris asked, โIn just a short time I was out, so many people came? What are they here for? Who are these two women?โ
โThey all previously worked with the Wilder Group but are now retired due to their age. They could be considered your predecessors. Given their status, itโs not appropriate to visit Ms. Wilder, so they came to see Linda instead and chat with her. I saw Ms. Wilder going upstairs, so I think you should rest for a while, too.โ
Jessica was on the phone with Sophie.
Originally, Sophie was supposed to come back, but when she heard Chris would be home for the New Year, she refused to return no matter what.
Jessica always indulged Sophieโs temper, but now she had to consider Chrisโs feelings.
Before the New Year, she told Sophie that if she wanted to come back, she should just take a planeโtickets had already been bought and delivered by the assistant.
If she refused to come, then she could spend the New Year abroad by herself.
Unexpectedly, Sophie really didnโt come back.
No matter how harsh Jessicaโs words were, after all, Sophie was still her biological sister; she couldnโt ignore Sophie during such a time.
From morning till now, she had called three times.
At first, Sophie didnโt answer, and no one knew where she was.
Jessica asked the branch office assistant and found out Sophie had gone to celebrate the New Year elsewhere with classmates and had no plans to return.
Entering the study, it seemed the call finally connected.
Jessica frowned, clearly in a bad mood.
When she saw Chris come in, she raised her hand, signaling him to wait outside for a moment.
Turning her chair, Jessica said to Sophie, โIโve already told youโChris is your brother-in-law. You canโt keep acting like this. Thereโs no chance between me and Michael. Michaelโs already married and has a child. Donโt you care at all about Momโs feelings?โ
