Chapter 20
Michael certainly wouldnโt choose to sue Chris. After all, the only fingerprints on the knife that injured Michael were his own. Chris hadnโt even touched it!
Upon careful thought, Michael understood how deeply ingrained he was in Jessicaโs heart, so he wouldnโt allow Chris to have the same standing.
They were both men, and although Chris could understand Michael, he couldnโt agree with him.
In two days, he would be heading to Desland. This time, the plane ticket was definitely secured, and Chris was spending every day packing in his dormitory, counting down the days.
His roommate was a recent graduate, a few years younger than Chris, and besides doing rounds with the teachers, he just played games. He found it curious that Chris didnโt seem to have any hobbies.
โIโm not kidding, donโt you find it unbearable to live like this?โ His roommate had just ordered some grilled skewers, and since they were always on call for surgery, they couldnโt drink alcohol, so they settled for Coke instead.
โHuh? Why would it be unbearable?โ Chris, who rarely ate such things, responded.
He had almost no friends. For the past five years, he had locked himself in a small house with no one to talk to. These few days in the dorm had been a very new experience for him.
His roommate was confused. โYou donโt go out, you donโt have any friends, you donโt play games or watch films. Really, you either read books or research papers. This kind of lifestyle will drive anyone crazy.โ
Hobbies? Friends?
He would have those. As long as he left Jessica, he could start a brand new life, and all of that would come to him.
โAlthough weโve only been living together for a few days, I think youโre a good person. So I wish you a better future, and I hope you find something youโre truly interested in.โ
The two of them clinked their glasses of Coke.
Michael had stayed in the hospital for two days and was ready to be discharged. In fact, the doctor had already warned that Michaelโs injury wasnโt severe and that he could go home to rest once he was awake, but Sophie and Jessica didnโt believe it. They insisted that Michael stay in the hospital for observation.
Sophie brought Jordan over to keep Michael company. She was packing up things, preparing to take Michael home.
โThe house is renovated,โ said Jessica as she came back from a phone call. โYou and Jordan can move in whenever. If youโre missing anything, just let Shannon know, sheโll help you arrange everything.โ
Michael grabbed Jessicaโs hand. โYouโve been working hard these past few days. How about I cook for you tonight?โ
โSure, sure! Daddy is making food for the beautiful lady!โ Jordan clapped her hands excitedly. โMy daddyโs cooking is amazing, Jessica! Youโll never forget it once youโve tasted it!โ
Jessica smiled. โIndeed, Iโll never forget it.โ
Michael blushed as he remembered the funny moments from the past. โI wasnโt good at cooking before, but abroad, I had to do everything myself. Otherwise, Iโd be stuck eating sandwiches every day, and I couldnโt handle that. Letโs go, Iโll show you my skills.โ
โForget it.โ Jessica gently pushed Michaelโs hand away. โYouโre still recovering from your injury. Cooking and cleaning the house could cause your wound to get infected. Iโll take you back home first, and then Iโll go back to work.โ
After saying this, Jessica turned to tease Jordan, while Michael turned his head and stared at Jessicaโs back, deep in thought.
Everyone said that Jessica still loved him, but he just felt like there was a barrier between them. Jessica had turned him down more than once.
Did she rather go back to work than stay with him a little longer?
It seemed that Chris had quite an impact on Jessica.
He needed to come up with another plan.
They only drove one car. After dropping off Michael and Jordan at Cloud Bay, Sophie also hitchhiked a ride with Jessica to a friendโs house.
On the way, Sophie asked curiously, โJessica, why didnโt you stay with Michael?โ
