Chapter 203
Jessica nodded in acknowledgment, and her gaze refocused on Michael.
Michael said, “In that case, I won’t take up your time any longer. Jason’s schedule will follow the original plan, according to the Wilder Group’s arrangements. Jessica, the next time we meet, there might be a bit of a surprise.”
With that said, Michael left.
Shannon and Maggie came in and closed the door again.
Jessica’s tightly furrowed brows never relaxed. She clasped her hands together, pressing them against her forehead. Shannon walked over and asked how things had gone.
“Michael should have understood, but… he gave me a bad feeling, as if something–or someone–was waiting for me. He seems to have someone behind his back.”
“Michael was originally the abandoned son of the Hall family. Now he’s just fighting Luke over the rights to a few small companies. What could there be?”
Jessica felt something was wrong.
This was not the Michael she knew.
In fact, ever since Michael had returned to the country, all the methods he used no longer felt familiar to her. For example, the kidnapping incident–she had thought it was Luke’s doing, but with Luke’s level of intelligence, he probably couldn’t have planned something so thorough.
That meant the mastermind behind Mandy’s kidnapping was actually Michael.
But Michael shouldn’t have done that. This wasn’t the best time for him to make a move. He seemed overly impatient.
“I was worried before about pushing Michael too hard. Now there’s no way back.”
“Should we arrange for an additional person to stay by Mr. Green’s side?” asked Shannon.
Jessica shook her head. “That won’t be necessary. The Summit Infirmary still has Ashley. One person is enough.”
Did they really think Ashley was just a simple medical student?
“Have Jennifer track Michael’s location at all times. If he appears in an unfamiliar place, lock onto it immediately. I need to find out what Michael’s secret is.”
“Understood.”

Since the Summit Infirmary was going to be listed, a single hospital wasn’t valuable enough. After the Wilder Group acquired the Summit Infirmary, they had already bought the large piece of land behind it, planning to build a convalescent center.
With a hospital and a convalescent center combined, its market value would double.
Frontier Constructions had always had a good reputation in the construction industry. Jessica chose to cooperate with them. Starting next month, they would begin expanding the convalescent center. The construction period was three months, and they had to see at least a basic structure by then.
“The convalescent center will be right behind the hospital. That way, the hospital can have more beds available,” Chris thought it was necessary and was explaining their plan to the board members.
Hayden Lynch asked, “What does the convalescent center have to do with leaving more beds in the hospital? We’re a private hospital. It’s normal for us not to have enough beds. It’s precisely because they’re scarce that they seem more valuable.”
Chris frowned and said, “We are a hospital. Whether public or private, we are still a hospital. Treating and saving patients is the most important thing. If there aren’t enough beds, some patients might not be able to start surgery at the scheduled time.”
Senior Professor, Harlan Livingston, nodded. “The director is right. I agree. Once the convalescent center is opened, patients who have already had surgery and are in recovery can be moved there, freeing more hospital beds for more patients.”
Seeing that Hayden still didn’t understand and looked resentful, Harlan added, “Think about it–if we can accommodate more patients at the front, more people will know about our hospital, and its market value will rise accordingly.”
“That makes sense. Let’s do as you say. Anyway, the Wilder Group is funding it, so we just need to follow the plan.”
Francesca brought out the documents, and all the board members signed them.
