Chapter 249

Roy walked a few steps into the distance and wanted to light a cigarette. He reached into his pocket but found no cigarettes on him. He squatted down irritably.

“At first, Luke’s mistress didn’t take it seriously. She thought Luke had gone back to his family for a couple of days. After all, she was the mistress and couldn’t be compared to Luke’s actual wife. But now there’s still no news.”

She was basically a sugar baby; whether Luke came or not didn’t matter as long as the money arrived. But then the wife called her, and only then did she realize that Luke had disappeared.

“Luke got married for the sake of an alliance. They each did their own thing. The wife had long known about Luke’s affair.”

Chris sat up slightly and instinctively clenched his fist.

“So what? Luke just disappeared? The Hall family didn’t get any calls? It’s not a kidnapping?”

“No, it isn’t. It’s been over 24 hours now with no calls. I’m at Luke’s house and have already reported the situation to the police.”

Chris stood up.

“You called Jessica because you suspected something?”

“Michael.”

Back then, Michael hadn’t revealed his identity as Elfa, and Luke and Michael were always fighting for control of the Hall family. Now that Michael was back, if he wanted the Hall family, the first to deal with would be Luke.

After all, Luke was easy to manipulate. Also, some matters in the Hall family were indeed handled by Luke. If Luke died, no outsider could find out the truth.

No witness, no evidence.

“I’ll head over now,” said Chris.

Roy interrupted, “No, don’t come over. I called Jessica to ask for Michael’s contact info. We’ve used all of the police’s communication channels but still can’t reach Michael. His calls are encrypted. I need Jennifer’s help.”

“Then go straight to the Wilder Group,” Chris looked at his watch.

“Let’s meet at the Wilder Group. I’ll try to contact Jessica. If I can’t reach her, I’ll help you.”

“Alright.”

Chris started taking off his doctor’s overalls and changed into his jacket. He hung up, grabbed his car keys, and was about to open the door when Ashley came in.

“Where are you going?” asked Ashley, surprised.

“I’m going to the Wilder Group.”

Ashley said, “The board meeting is in an hour. You didn’t forget, did you?”

He actually did forget. But he had something more important to do.

Chris said as he walked, “Have Francesca attend the meeting for me. Just say I’m going to the Wilder Group to deliver a report.”

“I’ll go with you,” said Ashley. He happened to be headed there as well.

Outside the Wilder Group, the rain had gotten heavier. There was still some distance from the car park to the main entrance, so Chris would inevitably get himself wet.

Chris decided to drive to the underground car park. The underground car park at the Wilder Group was only for internal staff. Jessica had already registered Chris’s plate number for access.

In the lobby on the first floor.

“Sir.” Chris hurried to reception, where the receptionist greeted him with a smile.

“Has the director of the IT department arrived?” asked Chris.

The receptionist looked down to check the access log for the day. There was a record for Jennifer.

“She arrived two hours ago.”

“Get Maggie to come downstairs and meet me,” said Chris.

“Okay.”

Originally, Maggie should have accompanied Jessica on the trip since she was responsible for the Montvue Tower project. But she had a meeting with a partner from Lonat today and was a bit delayed. She planned to catch up tomorrow.

Roy shook water from his hair, stood by the door scraping his shoes, and looked up to see Chris and Ashley standing at reception.
