Chapter 257

“You seemed to have done pretty well abroad—everything seemed to be going smoothly. Linda, who came back to the country with you this time, she’s one of them, isn’t she? From what I know, Linda’s been to your house more than just a few times.”

Anthony’s expression changed instantly.

“You…” He instinctively glanced at the already closed door and lowered his voice. “Stop trying to slander me.”

Shannon crossed her arms. “You know very well whether I’m slandering you or not. I haven’t shown these things to Indya yet. I don’t want her to start doubting herself.”

“Know your place, Anthony. Stay away from her.”

With that said, Shannon also closed her door.

There really wasn’t a moment of peace—Jessica had heard everything from inside her room.

In fact, Shannon didn’t really keep her voice down, and with just a door between them, Indya must have heard it too.

After days of heavy rain, even the streets of Impelia had started to accumulate water. The drainage system was already undergoing emergency repairs.

Chris had to keep up with too many updates every day.

He had to monitor both Jessica and Roy’s situation.

Roy eventually focused on a mistress of Luke’s as his primary target—the woman was far from simple.

They had originally thought she chose to be with Luke just for money, but after digging deeper, they discovered Luke had taken her by force from someone else.

Even more shocking, her original boyfriend had been killed by Luke.

“Your boyfriend died in Luke’s hands, and you’re still willing to be with him?” Roy looked at the woman in the interrogation room, her head bowed low.

Marcy Wall raised her head, glanced at Roy, then sneered. “Do I have the right to say no to someone like Luke?”

She leaned slightly back in her chair and looked up at the ceiling. The lighting in the interrogation room was dull and gray.

She said, “My boyfriend and I were already planning to get married. Luke just killed him like it was nothing. Of course I didn’t want to be with someone like that—but I still have my parents… and my boyfriend’s parents to take care of. I couldn’t let them all die because of me, could I?”

Roy exchanged a look with Jack.

Marcy really was beautiful; she was even a model for a magazine—so it wasn’t surprising that Luke had his eye on her.

But they hadn’t expected Luke to resort to such extreme methods to take her.

“How did your boyfriend die?”

Marcy sighed. “A car accident. The other driver was drunk—he went to prison. I originally thought it was just an accident, but a few days later, Luke came to me and said that the drunk driver was someone he had arranged. He said if I didn’t go with him, my parents and my boyfriend’s parents would die the same way.”

She was just an ordinary person—faced with that kind of threat, it was normal for her to be terrified.

“You said that on the day Luke disappeared, you were waiting at home the whole time? Was it the house Luke gave you?”

“Yes. He’s still the owner of the house. The house is still in his name. He said that he’d give the house to me once he lost interest in me. To be honest, Luke wasn’t really that rich.”

He only managed a few small companies that didn’t bring in much profit. As far as they knew, Marcy was the only mistress he had.

“His wife knew long ago that he had a mistress. I even met her once. But she didn’t care. You could tell she didn’t love him at all—she had a lover of her own too. She and Luke are quite a unique couple,” Marcy laughed.

The interrogation lasted for an hour and a half. Roy stepped out first.

Several subordinates were waiting outside.

“Luke’s disappearance is definitely connected to Marcy. But if it’s revenge, she won’t open up easily. Go find her boyfriend’s parents and bring them in.”
