Jessica said, “I know. There were just some things I needed to say to Sophie, nothing else.”
Collin sighed. He recalled when Sophie was little, and he still lived near Jessica’s house. Back then, Sophie always liked following behind Jessica. Who would have thought things would turn out like this?
“Your temper was never good to begin with. Don’t lose your patience with Sophie. Make sure not to lose your temper, Chris."
Hearing Collin call him, Chris walked over. “Yes?”
“You know what kind of temper your wife has. Try to keep her in check.”
Chris said, “I know.” But in his heart, he thought that Sophie had never liked him anyway. The reason he was going along this time was simply to accompany Jessica. He couldn’t feel at ease letting Jessica travel around alone – he was still shaken whenever he thought about the incident at Montvue Tower. If he and Jessica appeared together, Sophie would probably be even angrier.
The Wilder Group’s e-sports club was also heading to Lonat to compete, and coincidentally, they had booked seats on the same flight. As the public relations director, Indya had to accompany them for the competition.
“The Lightnings are the favorite to win this time. If they were completely unknown, there’d be no chance of winning at all—I wouldn’t need to be tagging along then,” Indya complained to Chris.
Recently, the Summit Infirmary had been making its final sprint toward going public, and Francesca had to deal daily with a swarm of businesspeople and journalists from Hurricane Media. On the other hand, Chris, the chairman, had found himself with more free time. Whenever he had nothing to do at the hospital, he came over to the Wilder Group. Lately, Jessica had been in a foul mood, and her subordinates were so pressured they could hardly breathe – at least Chris could provide a bit of relief.
“So you actually signed a championship-favorite team, huh?” Chris wasn’t very familiar with gaming, but he had seen Jake playing all the time. During breaks he would use his phone, and at night in the dorm he would switch to the computer. In fact, most university students played games to some extent. With several roommates playing together, things could get lively. But Chris had never experienced that. Back in university, he was either studying or working part-time. His mother had been ill and needed money, and he had needed money for tuition as well. Looking back on those years, he had hardly any leisure time at all.
“Of course, we only signed a team that had a shot at winning glory for the country. Otherwise, why spend so much money?” Indya stuffed the last bite of bread into her mouth. “Originally, it was supposed to be just you and Ms. Wilder going to Lonat. Now it’s changed. I’ll be taking the team with me. Shannon will be co-leading with me, and also…” She swallowed the bread with difficulty, and Chris quickly handed her some tea. Indya took a sip of tea to wash the bread down. “And also Blake.”
Chris froze for a moment. “Blake is going too?”
“Yeah.” Indya sounded a little helpless. “It all happened to line up. Blake has an awards ceremony abroad, and since Sam is away on a business trip and can’t accompany her, they decided I should fill in instead. Sigh… last time Ms. Wilder said she’d raise my salary—did that ever go through?”
Chris was rendered speechless. Looking at it that way, Indya really was working hard.
When Jessica came out of the meeting room, her sharp gaze immediately spotted the two of them sitting together. Indya quickly stood up, grabbed the bag of bread, and ran off.
“Looks like the two of you have been talking for quite a while.” Jessica had gone to the meeting room to meet with suppliers, and before she left, those two had already been sitting together. When she returned, they were still there. Chris knew Jessica wasn’t the type to get jealous over Indya. At most, she might get a little petty like a young girl.
“Your employee was just complaining about how you exploit her,” Chris said with a smile.
Jessica snorted. “Then she can forget about her bonus this month.”
