Jessica immediately understood โ Chris was trying to provoke Michael.
โFine then, count it as me saying the wrong thing. You two carry on, Iโm going back to sleep. I still have work tomorrow.โ After saying that, Chris turned around and walked off without hesitation.
Jessica quickly let go of Jordan and ran after him, pulling him aside. Her expression was slightly cold. โDo you really have to say those things in front of Michael and Jordan?โ
โDid I say something wrong?โ Chris asked with a mocking smile. โActually, Iโm really curious โ if it werenโt for that phone call, what did you come to me for? Did you really miss me? Orโฆ did you just want someone to keep you company?โ
Chrisโs sharp tongue left Jessica speechless for a moment. She didnโt want him bringing up these things in front of Michael.
What Shannon said earlier was right โ she really needed to think about what she wanted, or rather, who she wanted.
Since Chris was doing everything he could to get divorced, if she made her choice, there was no need to keep clinging to him.
But until she figured it out, she couldnโt let Chris leave.
โGo back to sleep.โ Jessica turned and walked away. โIโll get Jordan hospitalized. Bring them breakfast tomorrow morning. Jordan wants milk.โ
The next morning, Chris changed straight into his doctorโs overall and headed to the office.
This time, he skipped the internship period entirely. Several patients were already waiting outside early in the morning โ he wasnโt going to waste time on Michael.
He just didnโt expect the first person to walk in would be the one he least wanted to see.
When Chris saw Michaelโs name, a headache immediately struck.
โWhere do you feel unwell?โ Chris asked out of routine.
Michael rested one hand on the desk and stared at Chris in silence for a long moment before finally speaking. โWhy do you keep haunting me like a ghost?โ
โShouldnโt I be the one asking you that?โ Chris replied with sarcasm. โIf you really had what it takes, you wouldโve kept Jessica by your side. I wouldnโt keep getting dragged back by her. If you canโt do it, stop acting tough in front of me.โ
โYou thinkโฆ I canโt?โ
Chris was growing impatient. โDo you actually have a medical issue or not? If not, get out. Iโve got a lot of patients waiting.โ
Michael stood up and suddenly leaned closer. Chris instinctively stepped back.
Michaelโs eyes burned with intensity, and in them, Chris could already see a flash of murderous intent.
โChris, you forced me into this.โ
โWhat, youโre gonna kill me now?โ
Even after Michael left, Chris remained disturbed by that look. He had to admit โ Michaelโs expression, full of hatred, really caught him off guard.
How had things ended up like this?
He had originally thought that after all these years, Jessica still couldnโt forget Michael. The two of them must still love each other.
Chapter 35
If he just got divorced and stepped aside, everything would fall into place.
He would start a new life. Jessica and Michael would reunite after five years โ what a beautiful picture that would be.
Even Jessica not wanting kids wasnโt an issue โ Michael could just bring a daughter with him.
Everything was perfect.
So how had it come to this?
Chris massaged his temples and called for the next patient.
Around nine oโclock, Jessica finally left the hospital. She had stayed up the whole night and looked exhausted.
The moment Shannon saw her, she knew she hadnโt slept. The smell of disinfectant on her clothes made her think Jessica had gone to find Chris.
โSo? Did you go see Mr. Green? Did you two have a talk?โ
Jessica glanced at her. โJordan had a fever. I stayed with her all night.โ
Shannonโs expression stiffened. Why was Michael involved again?
