Chapter 41
โWhat?โ Shannon was momentarily stunned by the completely unrelated conversation.
Jennifer laughed and pointed outside the window. โA new model Porsche, all Blue Star Diamonds, only one in the country. I think I wonโt mistake the car for someone elseโs.โ
Shannon tilted her head and immediately stood up. โNo way!โ
Someone really was having their car towed right outside the Wilde Group?
Thinking about her own car being towed, Shannon felt a wave of embarrassment.
Jessica suddenly remembered she hadnโt told Chris about tonightโs dinner arrangement, so she quickly made a phone call.
Actually, Chris also had a date that evening.
Recently, his relationship with Jessica had stabilized, resembling their early days of marriage, which pleased Jessica very much. But Chris felt uneasy.
Seeing someone you havenโt forgotten every day could easily make you fall in love again.
Besides, Jessica now was completely different from before; she cared about his emotions and even found joy in some of his expressions, paying more attention to him than in all the past five years combined.
If this had been before, Chris would have been overjoyed.
But now, as a divorced couple, Chris only worried.
โRoy!โ
Before Chris reached the private room, he saw someone standing at the door making a phone call.
He happily called out, and the other person raised a hand in acknowledgment.
โAlright, got it. Keep an eye on it, donโt act rashly.โ
After hanging up, Roy Felton walked over and sized up Chris, tapping him twice on the head. โYou havenโt changed these years, just look less energetic. What, did getting married make you age?โ
Roy and Chris were childhood friends, living in the same courtyard as kids.
Later, Roy got into the police academy while Chris went to medical school.
There was even a time Chris considered switching to forensic medicine just to help Roy.
At the Cosmos, a private dining restaurant, only ten tables were available every night for privacy, all in private rooms.
Many people liked to do business there because the food was good and it was discreet.
Roy had just returned from handling a case abroad.
โDonโt blame me, Roy.โ Chris felt a bit embarrassed.
โYou stayed abroad for half a year and got so tanned. Why did you come back now?โ
โThe case abroad was hard to solve. Itโs actually not fully closed yet. The suspect escaped.โ Roy lit a cigarette and watched Chris carefully, sensing he was avoiding something, his eyes flickering slightly.
He cocked his brows and asked, โIs there something you want to tell me?โ
The two were very close, meeting almost every month in Cheria. Jessica didnโt know about Chrisโs meetings with Roy.
Back then, Jessica didnโt care about him or want to know his friends.
Several times Chris wanted to invite Roy home to introduce his neighbor to his wife, but never got the chance.
Now.
Chris smiled bitterly; nothing really escaped Royโs eyes.
โI got divorced.โ
Roy frowned, โThat woman from the Wilde Group? Didnโt you like her a lot? Why get a divorce all of a sudden?โ
Come to think of it, Roy had noticed recent news about the Wilde Group, rumors about that woman having an affair during the marriage.
Could it be?
Seeing Royโs sharp look, Chris quickly explained, โNo, I divorced Jessica becauseโฆ there was no love left. Roy, I donโt like Jessica anymore. She only got in touch with that man after we divorced. Itโs alright.โ
Roy laughed angrily at his anxious explanation.
