Chapter 48
The banquet venue chosen by Crimson Engineering was the Rose Manor, where the Wilder Group had also held their anniversary celebrations years ago.
Inside the huge iron gates, roses of all kinds spread everywhere. As soon as one got close, the strong fragrance of roses could be smelled. Besides that, the wine here was exceptionalโit was a privately owned manor, and without some connections, renting it was impossible. This alone proved the Chairman of Crimson Engineeringโs status in the business world.
On the day of the party, Chris only accepted one surgery. His mood had been good lately, and it was rare to feel Jessicaโs care for him; he even felt a bit relieved that he hadnโt left back then.
Jake was accompanying the mentor on rounds and was just about to finish work when he happened to see Chris smiling at his phone and pushed the door open to come in.
โWell, youโre in a good mood! You were looking so down a few days ago, I thought something happened to you.โ
Jake was casual and pulled out the chair opposite to sit. At this time, all of Chrisโs appointments had been called, leaving only the two of them. Chris twirled the pen in his hand, replied to Jessicaโs message, and put the phone aside.
โNot bad. You were second assistant in this afternoonโs surgery. How did it feel?โ
โPretty good. Jonathan guided me hand in hand. I really envy you that your hands are so steady. Iโll go back and keep practicing later. Are you going back to the dorm tonight?โ
โNo, Iโm not.โ
Jessica arrived at the hospital on time to pick him up. She checked the time and, while Chris hadnโt come out yet, called Michael. Today was such an important dayโMichael mustnโt cause trouble.
Lately, Michael had been going out more often and frequently taking Jordan with him. If he were negotiating with the Hall family, he definitely wouldnโt bring the child along. Jennifer said that every time Michael returned home, his face was dark, and Jordan didnโt seem very happy either.
Michael could still put on a show in front of Jennifer, but Jordan was a child. In the past few nights when she brought milk, she had heard Jordan throwing a tantrum at Michael, saying, โI donโt want to see her anymore.โ
Who was this โherโ? The Hall family held many secrets, and Michael bore many burdens. Jessica wanted to dig them all out, but without alerting Michael or really falling out with him. She felt sorry for keeping Chris in the dark. This matter involved too much; Chrisโs ignorance was actually a form of protection.
With that thought in mind, the call was answered.
โJessica.โ
Michaelโs voice was as gentle as ever, as if five years had left no trace on them. Jessica was momentarily stunned, then quickly responded, โAre you home?โ
โYeah, Iโm watching TV with Jordan. By the way, Jessica, about sending Jordan to school, I thought about it, and I think I should listen to you.โ
Jessica breathed a sigh of relief.
โOkay, Iโll have someone make the preparations.โ
They spoke for a while, confirming Michael was home and wouldn't go out today before she felt at ease. When Chris came out, she hung up with a tender look, but her expression quickly changed. She sent a message to Shannon.
Shannon, who was still preparing at the company, saw the message and quickly contacted people to prepare Jordanโs enrollment documents.
โYouโre early.โ
Chris rarely initiated conversation with Jessica, but in the past two days, things had started to ease up a little. Jessica smiled, walked over, and hugged Chris and held his hand.
โYou rarely come out this early. You would usually come out as late as possible.โ
Things were different now.
Inside the Rose Manor, glasses clinked and drinks flowed. No one here would spoil such a day. Crimson Engineering was the leader in the field, and no one dared offend them. Recently, rumors had spread that the Hall family was going to cooperate with Crimson Engineering. All the details had been negotiated, and now only signatures were left.
