Chapter 53

“Take a close look at the details, mainly the prices.”

Jennifer was in the kitchen. Michael wasn’t around. Jordan was watching TV. Jennifer took her computer from a cabinet compartment and held it while talking to Jessica.

“Recently, Michael had been spending more time in the study, so it was hard for me to get in. Oh, and lately there have been calls coming in. As soon as they hear my voice, they stop talking. But if Michael or Jordan answers, they talk for a long time.”

“Keep an eye on it.”

It seemed the people behind Michael wouldn’t stay hidden much longer.

Near the end of the workday, Jessica closed her computer and was about to pick up Chris, but unexpectedly, Michael called first, saying he was already waiting downstairs at the company. Jordan insisted on eating with her, so Jessica had no choice but to agree.

However, Chris had already arrived at the company lobby ahead of them. He had gone to a lecture at school earlier, which ended some time ago. After talking with a teacher at the hospital, he came to the Wilder Group. He didn’t go upstairs, not wanting to be the center of attention, so he waited downstairs. Recently, Jessica had been picking him up after work, and this was supposed to be a surprise for her.

The surprise didn’t work out and instead made him feel uncomfortable.

“Jessica.”

“Ms. Wilder.”

Michael held Jordan’s hand as they entered. Jordan happily jumped into Jessica’s arms. Jessica smiled and hugged the child, gently pinching her cheek. Just as she turned her head, she saw Chris standing up, stunned.

Why was Chris here?

Jessica felt a little flustered and didn’t know how to explain, but she couldn’t let Michael notice anything unusual.

Michael saw Jessica freeze and turned his head to notice Chris’s unpleasant expression.

“Chris is here too? Why don’t we all go together then?” Michael said politely.

But Jordan didn’t give Chris a chance to respond. She grabbed Jessica’s hand and said, “No, I don’t want the bad guy to go. The bad guy will hurt Daddy! I want Daddy to go with Ms. Wilder!”

Jessica couldn’t explain, so she just held Jordan still.

Chris smiled wryly. “Fine, I’m just passing by. You guys go ahead. I won’t bother you.” Then he turned and left.

He had expected Jessica to come after him like last time, but after waiting a long time in the car, he only saw the ‘family of three’ get into Jessica’s car.

Sure enough, whether or not Jessica was interested in him, Michael would always be the first choice.

Forget it, he didn’t want to go back today, so he floored the accelerator to Roy’s office. Since he couldn’t get inside, he parked nearby and called Roy.

Roy was still busy with a case but made time to come out and see him.

“Roy, do you really think women are that good at being pretentious?”

After the last incident, Roy had come to understand Jessica a little more.

Plus, with the Aitairy case involving the Hall family, he could also understand why Jessica maintained her relationship with Michael.

Roy looked at Chris.

Jessica didn’t tell Chris; maybe it was to protect him. The situation was too complicated, and Chris was innocent, so he shouldn’t get involved. Roy didn’t dare say more.

“After all, she’s the one you like. You should trust her.”

That was all Roy could say.
