Jessica didn’t like hearing that and frowned. “What do you mean by ‘misery’?” “Isn’t it?”
Thinking of the mental pressure Chris might have endured before and everything Michael did to him after returning, Jessica swallowed the words she wanted to say but still weakly replied, “Be good to him.” “Do as you see fit.”
That night at the Wilder family’s residence, the two of them had behaved themselves and didn’t do much. Chris felt their relationship was strange; recently, their intimate contact was more frequent than all the years combined before their divorce. And almost all of it was Jessica taking the initiative. Before, Jessica would often say she was tired, working overtime every day at the company, and basically slept separately when she came home. Sharing a bed with Jessica and even actively talking about funny things at work, was something Chris wouldn’t have dared to imagine.
Roy couldn’t contact Jessica through Chris, so he had to come to the company again and again. The second time, Roy finally met Jessica. “Roy, you can just call me directly.” Jessica was polite, asking Shannon to make coffee. “If you checked, you’d find my contact info easily.” Roy coughed. “It’s not very appropriate. I’m looking for your help, so I should be more formal. I don’t want Chris to know about this either. Shannon knocked and brought coffee in. Jennifer was truly talented but had a strange temper. He really didn’t understand how Jessica managed to recruit such a person and even had the power to control her.
“If Roy has any matters in the future, just call me directly. The company will be busy near the end of the year.” Shannon returned but stayed at the door without entering. “Ms. Wilder, Jennifer is ready and available anytime. Mr. Hall came and is waiting with Jason in the lounge.”
Hearing Michael’s name, Jessica instinctively glanced at Roy. Sure enough, Roy frowned and looked more scrutinizing. In front of Shannon, Roy didn’t say anything. “Got it.”
The office door closed again, and Roy’s tone remained unpleasant, “You and Michael…” “It’s just a work relationship,” explained Jessica, which was rare for her to do so. Just kidding, Roy was close with Chris and played a big role in his reconciliation. Besides, she would meet Roy often in the future, and she didn’t want Michael to make things difficult. She knew clearly which side mattered more.
Roy’s brow didn’t relax, obviously still worried about his useless younger brother. Roy had already told Chris a lot and didn’t know if he’d listen.
“You know Chris’s temperament. You’re already divorced. If you back down, Chris will walk away in an instant. I won’t speak well of you then.” Jessica smiled with relief. “That won’t happen. I still need your help. After all, what I’m doing aligns with what you want to pursue. If I can help you, I hope you can also help me in my love life.” Roy was rendered speechless. This woman really left no gaps.
He couldn’t argue with a businessperson and left quietly. Passing by the lounge on the same floor, the door was open. From the corners of his eyes, he saw a man sitting next to Michael who looked quite handsome. It should be the artist Shannon mentioned, though Roy didn’t watch TV and knew little about the entertainment circle.
