Chapter 74
It had been a long time, but Jessica still felt a lingering fear. If she hadnโt changed her flight, would Chris already be dead? If someone had broken in by force, she might not have even seen Chrisโs body.
Later, she asked Chris if he had taken sleeping pills, but Chris said he rarely took medicine. There was only one bottle of sleeping pills at home, and it belonged to Jessica; he had never touched it. So someone had tampered with Chrisโs tea and drugged him before he returned home. This person knew the password to the house. After thinking it over, the only people who knew the password besides her mother and Shannon wereโฆ Michael!
Back then, Jessica hadnโt suspected Michael so much and found it hard to believe. As the investigation progressed, Michaelโs life abroad was quite interesting and not as miserable as he claimed. After marrying Helen, Michael basically took over all of Helenโs business dealings. He was actually the owner of Aitairy. Wanting to take a life was no problem at all.
โDonโt worry. Michael is right by your side now. It wonโt be easy for him to harm Mr. Green. Plus, since you and Mr. Green are divorced, he basically isnโt in Michaelโs way. He probably wonโt try anything anymore,โ Shannon said.
Jessica massaged her temples and sighed. โItโs hard to say. I donโt allow Chris to leave my side. Michael might still see him as a threat; otherwise, he wouldnโt have tried to frame Chris by stabbing himself. Only Sophie, that little fool, didnโt realize it. By the way, howโs Sophie doing abroad?โ
โThe people at the branch said sheโs either been obediently attending classes, or going out shopping with classmates. According to your orders, we havenโt stopped giving her money.โ
After all, Sophie was her younger sister; Jessica couldnโt be too harsh.
โBe careful. Donโt let her have any more contact with Michael. I could tell back then that Sophie had some feelings for Michael tooโฆ I just didnโt expect sheโd still havenโt forgotten after all these years.โ
At the hospital, Jessica looked very anxious as she hurried to the operating room door. The head nurse saw the investor and quickly came over to explain Jordanโs condition. The injuries werenโt severe, but the child was too young and needed time to recover. The surgery was still underway and would take another half an hour.
โWho brought Jordan here?โ asked Jessica.
Seeing her attitude, the head nurse thought she had come to catch someone cheating. She pointed to the anxious woman waiting by the operating room door.
โThatโs her. She looks like a foreigner. She said sheโs the childโs biological mother, but she couldnโt answer any questions. We were about to call the police.โ
Jessica raised her hand to stop her. She looked carefully for a while and confirmed it was the woman in the photo.
โShe is Jordanโs biological mother. The reason she canโt explain is that she hasnโt been with the child these past years. You can go now.โ
โOkay.โ
Jessica whispered a few words to Shannon, who then walked toward the observation room, while Jessica stayed beside the woman.
Helen sensed someone nearby and looked up. Seeing Jessica, a trace of disgust appeared in her eyes. Then she turned her head away, pretending not to recognize her.
โHelen, you know me, right?โ said Jessica.
โWho are you?โ asked Helen. โI donโt know you.โ
Jessica smiled calmly and sat down beside her.
โHelen, former chairman of the Giga Group, gone bankrupt two years ago, Michaelโs ex-wife, Jordanโs biological mother, and Aitairyโsโฆโ
โWhat do you want!โ
The mention of Aitairy suddenly made Helen alert. Jessica shushed her and pointed at a few people in the distance who were getting treatment but kept watching them. She faintly smiled, as if she had this woman completely under control.
