Jessica had always thought about adopting a child, thinking that maybe then Chris might stay home to focus on the child.
Over the past few days, while taking care of Jordan, she had started to feel that adopting a child wasnโt such a bad idea after allโat the very least, it might keep Chris from wandering off.
To her, it might not be as important as a business deal, but to Chris it could be a life-changing event.
Seeing how casual Jessica was about it, Shannon didnโt think much of it either and simply nodded.
But a week later, when Shannon saw Chris standing at the entrance of the Register Office, she was completely stunned.
โThisโฆ this is the โsmall matterโ Ms. Wilder mentioned?โ she exclaimed, eyes wide in shock.
Wearing high heels, she walked up to Chris and hesitantly asked, โSir, whatโs this about?โ
Seeing that the person who arrived wasnโt Jessica, Chris immediately felt displeased.
โWhy are you here? Where is she?โ
Shannon replied, โShe went abroad last weekโfor the Ocean Conference. Itโs a week-long event; she wonโt be back until the weekend.โ
As expected, his affairs were never as important as her business.
Shannon quickly took out her phone and called Jessica.
The person on the other end spoke in a difficult-to-understand language. Through the phone, Shannon could barely make anything out, but she could tell that Jessica sounded irritated.
โMs. Wilder, do I really have to be the one to sign this?โ
โIf he tells you to sign it, then sign it.โ
โBut thisโฆ maybe itโs better to wait for you to come back?โ
Jessica was holding her forehead with one hand and the phone with the other. When she noticed someone writing something on a piece of paper in front of her, her attention immediately shifted.
โNo need. Just sign it. If moneyโs needed, just deduct it from the account. And donโt forget to pick me up from the airport this weekend.โ
Shannon quickly switched back to work mode. โThis weekend is Madam Lindaโs birthday. Does Mr. Green still need to attend?โ
She wasnโt sure what the situation was anymore.
At this rate, Chris and Jessica were getting a divorce, so he wouldnโt be Lindaโs son-in-law anymore, and attending wouldnโt make sense.
โAs the Wilder familyโs son-in-law, if he doesnโt show up, people will laugh at us." Jessica had just finished saying this when another question came her way, and she ended the call immediately.
Shannon gave a wry smile, while Chris, standing beside her, had heard everything.
He had thought they could part ways peacefully but never expected Jessica wouldnโt even show up in person to finalize the divorce.
Chris had already resigned himself to itโthere was no future for them anymore.
Since that was the case, there was no point in wasting time.
He turned and walked inside.

Shannon couldnโt keep up in her heels and carefully followed a few steps. She wanted to say something to comfort him, but thinking of Chrisโs recent circumstances, she didnโt know what to say.
As Jessicaโs personal secretary, Shannon naturally knew that Michel had returned to the country and that Ms. Wilder had been focused entirely on him and his daughter.
Meanwhile, Chris, as her husband, hadnโt even been going home.
For a marriage of several years to end like thisโit was almost hilarious.
When their number was called, Shannon tried once again to call Jessica to explain the situation, but she didnโt pick up.
The staff at the Register Office didnโt even look up. They took the documents from Chris, checked them, and quickly stamped them.
โSir, perhaps you two should discuss this moreโฆโ
Chris didnโt respond.
The staff worked efficiently. Two copies of the divorce certificates were handed over. Chris passed Jessicaโs copy to Shannon.
Seeing how awkward Shannon looked, he offered some reassurance. โDonโt worry. She signed the divorce agreement herself. This has nothing to do with you. Even if you hadnโt come today, I would still have found a way to collect the certificate.โ
