Chris really wanted to curse, but his upbringing didnโt allow it. He only said, โDid that old man deserve to die?โ
โAre you home?โ Jessicaโs voice was very soft, with the sound of wind in the background. It seemed she had just finished work and hadnโt returned to the hotel yet. Jessica had learned about todayโs events from the hospital and called Chris to comfort him.
โYou did nothing wrong. No one should pay for his mistakes. Don't feel pressured,โ Jessica said.
Chris supported his head, feeling a bit uncomfortable. โI donโt feel pressured. I just made the right decision. I just didnโt expect it would cause an old man to pass away. From what my colleagues said, he was a very good person.โ
โThatโs not your fault either.โ Jessica stood under the hotel, gestured to Shannon to go upstairs first, then stood near the flowerbed making a call.
โNot in a good mood? Didnโt go out to eat?โ
Chris said, โAfter something like this happens, no one has the mood. I canceled the meal at the Cosmos.โ
โWell, you still have to eat. Iโve already approved the dismissal procedures for Ben. Donโt think too much.โ
After talking with Jessica on the phone for a long time, the room was still dark. He didnโt turn on the light, letting himself slowly drift into sleep in the familiar environment. He was so tired that he fell asleep on the sofa.
Suddenly, there was a knock at the door, waking him up. He glanced at his watch; it was just past eleven. He had slept less than half an hour. Rubbing his eyes, he got up to open the door, curious who it could be.
When he opened the door, it was Ben standing there. Originally, Chris didnโt want to argue with Ben. Even if Ben was being sarcastic, he always showed good temper and a good face. But now, Chrisโs face was cold as he tried to close the door.
โHow did you know where I live?โ
Ben carried quite a few things in his hands, seemingly gifts to try to smooth things over. Ben smiled in a flattering way, no longer with the cold expression from before.
โIโฆ I asked in the relations department, Iโฆโ Ben stepped forward, trying to bring the medicine inside, but Chris, tall and long-legged, stood at the door, not stepping aside.
โIf you have something to say, just say it.โ
Benโs face was a bit stiff, but he still put all the things on the floor. โAt my age, if I get fired by the hospital, no one will want me. Iโฆ I know it was my fault. I accept the surgery failure. I can pay the compensation to the family myself. Can you not fire me? Iโm willing to transfer to logistics. It was all my fault before, Mr. Green, Iโฆโ
Chapter 91
Chris raised his hand to interrupt and didnโt continue listening. "Your dismissal procedures have already been approved. Youโll receive the papers in a few days. How you negotiate with the family members is your business, but the hospital cannot keep you anymore."
Benโs face darkened, and the hallway lights seemed to dim as well.
โMr. Green, please show some mercy, okay?โ said Ben.
Chris sneered and leaned against the doorframe. โWhat, youโre threatening me now?โ
Ben shook his head. โNot really a threat. I just think itโs unreasonable for someone your age to be chairman. If I send a file to court asking them to look into you, do you think youโll last long in this position? Better we settle this now, so no one troubles the other.โ
It seemed that Ben still hadnโt realized his mistakes. Chris remained indifferent and kicked the gifts out with his foot.
โGo find a place to sue me then.โ
