Episode 135

Seizing the moment, Elizabeth immediately transferred the funds into Elijah's account.

Meanwhile, at Bayview Villa, Elijah stared at the two identical transaction records on his phone, a nagging feeling that something was wrong. The simultaneous transfers, each for the same amount, taunted him with their improbable synchronicity. His long fingers drummed a restless rhythm on the table. He obsessively switched between the records, sensing the anomaly but unable to pinpoint it. The same amount had been transferred and received within ten minutes.

Just hours earlier, Elizabeth had been negotiating with the doctor, pleading for a postponement of the treatment charges. Now, she possessed an extra six hundred thousand dollars. This was highly unusual. Elizabeth and Sandra had no known connection.

"It's probably just a coincidence," he muttered. Yet, the precision of the coincidence seemed too perfect.

Nearby, Oliver paused thoughtfully, then dialed Elizabeth's number and offered the phone to Elijah.

"Perhaps you should inform Ms. Sandra about the completed transfer," he suggested gently.

Elijah raised an eyebrow, his voice laced with disbelief. "Since when do I concern myself with six hundred thousand dollars?" He was accustomed to ignoring the influx of funds for billion-dollar projects.

Oliver remained silent, patiently enduring Elijah's brusqueness, persistently offering the phone. "Ms. Sandra isn't exactly wealthy, and yet she managed to send such a sum. It's worth mentioning, Mr. James."

"Indeed, worth mentioning, if only to confirm she hasn't borrowed it from those so-called friends of hers," Elijah mused, a flicker of disdain in his eyes. "I have my own phone." Elizabeth had removed his number from her blacklist; he didn't need to borrow Oliver's.

He retrieved his phone and called her. The moment the call connected, Elizabeth's chilly voice hit him like a cold wind.

"I've repaid you for Grandma's medical bills. We're even now. Thank you, nevertheless."
