Episode 21
After Sandra’s audition, everyone took a much-needed break. The director, reviewing his notes, paused before breaking the silence.
“You know, if we hadn’t seen Elizabeth’s audition today, Sandra’s performance might have seemed stronger. She’s very popular right now, and her social media presence is undeniable.”
Sandra was a top candidate for the female lead, personally selected by the director. At the peak of her career, she was a highly sought-after star, and her involvement could boost the show’s ratings. The director considered giving her another opportunity.
Stewart, observing quietly, interjected, “Remember, this drama is based on a beloved online novel with a massive following. Casting should prioritize faithfulness to the source material over fame.”
The screenwriter nodded in agreement. “Exactly. Adapting such a work presents unique challenges. Fans of the book are far more critical than average TV viewers. Casting the female lead correctly is crucial for this adaptation’s success.”
His thoughts turned to Elizabeth. “The moment Elizabeth walked in, she embodied the female lead I envisioned. Her portrayal felt more authentic than Sandra’s. Sandra had a week to prepare, yet her performance barely met expectations. It might be a lack of dedication, or perhaps her acting skills aren't sufficient.”
The agent's earlier reactions suggested the latter.
Elva waited tensely outside for ten minutes before catching the eye of a passing intern. After a brief exchange, she gave him a chic, limited-edition YSL gift box, securing crucial information about the director and screenwriter’s discussions.
