Episode 63
“No matter what Elizabeth wears, she always looks amazing.” Cory and Kailee exchanged a look, their faces clearly dissatisfied. Despite their feelings, a reluctant silence fell between them. Further conversation risked offending Elijah.
Shawn and Melany arrived, impeccably dressed in matching cloud-white suits, their elegance announcing their presence. Elizabeth instantly recognized the bespoke tailoring; the Isonridge shop, famed for its royal lineage, created collector's items. Even though Shawn had retired from active duties years ago, his presence still commanded attention. Cory tensed, acutely aware of Shawn's apparent disapproval, and tried to remain inconspicuous. Melany, in contrast, radiated calm and tranquility, a testament to her life dedicated to personal growth and peace. Her eyes softened with concern as they met Elizabeth's.
“Elizabeth, come over here, let me see how you’re doing,” Melany said gently.
Elizabeth moved towards them, nodding respectfully at Shawn and warmly taking Melany’s hand. “Melany, I’m really okay now,” she assured her.
Kailee, trailing behind, discreetly glanced at Elizabeth, her lips barely moving as she mouthed, "Suck up." Elizabeth noticed but dismissed it. Her bond with Melany was genuine, devoid of any need for approval.
Elijah interrupted, offering an update intended to alleviate concerns. “Grandma, there’s no need to worry. A top dermatologist from Steu Skua, known for his expertise in scar treatments, will be at a conference in Orkset. I’ve arranged for Elizabeth to meet him for a thorough examination.” Elizabeth's eyelashes flickered subtly; her face remained composed as she absorbed the news.
Elijah always provided materially without hesitation. However, since the fire, despite her wounds having long healed, he had never inquired about her health. Wasn't this a stark reflection of their cold reality? For Elijah, arranging a medical expert seemed far easier than feigning concern.
At dinner, the family's laughter and conversations flowed effortlessly, as if the day's earlier tensions had dissipated.
