Episode 70

Their gazes locked. Memories of Elijah leaving her alone at Sandra's dinner flooded back, threatening tears. Her usually composed face betrayed a hint of sorrow; her typically soft eyes sparkled with defiance, tears poised but unshed. Her former reticence had masked her allure, but now, she unexpectedly melted his heart.

Elijah's voice softened. "I didn't abandon you because of anyone else. It was my commitments to the Norris Group. This isn't just finances; it requires my direct involvement and signature." He rarely opened up like this.

Elizabeth understood he referred to Blazing Sun, yet she wondered if this was just another excuse concerning Sandra. How was it different from leaving her for Sandra? His explanations seemed pointless now that she'd resolved to divorce him; his business dealings no longer mattered. With a heavy heart, she averted her gaze, continuing to dry her hair, letting the silence grow.

Disregarding his attempts at explanation, she directed Oliver to the nearest community center near her new residence. Oliver remained still, casting an inquiring glance at Elijah. Elijah, unprepared for her hardened resolve, fell into frustrated silence. Oliver, seeing the conversation stalled, relied on his understanding of Elijah to take charge.

Fifteen minutes later, Elizabeth, finishing her hair, felt a sense of déjà vu. She soon realized they were headed toward Bayview Villa. Her voice rising, she confronted Oliver. "Oliver! You're going the wrong way—my place isn't this way. Turn back!" Observing Elijah's indifferent reflection, Oliver continued.

"Are you not listening? I said turn around and take me back home!" Her voice cracked with irritation as she thumped the seat. Oliver pressed on without response. Feeling slighted by both, her regret deepened. A moment later, she noticed the car door was unlocked.
