Chapter One Hundred and Fifteen – Don’t Do It Again – 1

3:31 a.m., and I am ready for home. I am tipsy but not drunk. I stopped drinking half an hour ago. I just ran into an old boyfriend. The one who got away. It is…safe… seeing them first and laughing together. If fate is kind, tonight may prove that. They are comfortable with one another. You wouldn't think they broke up four years ago. Carin is a good man. They are good for one another. The only reason it didn’t work out before was that he moved away for work. Maybe this is their second chance. I wanted to give them time to themselves to…end out – one of the other traumas I want to leave behind.

I take my cell phone from my bag to text Wyatt. I didn’t have to worry that he had fallen asleep. He won’t sleep until I am back with him.

“Hey, babe, can you come get me, please? I am ready for home.” I send him a PIN showing my location.

“Yes, I will be there soon.”

Thank you.

It shouldn’t take too long for him to arrive. I say goodbye to Tori and Gavin.

“Text me when you are home safely,” I say as I hug her. She promises she will. I gather my things and go outside to wait for Wyatt. It is too warm to wait inside. I stay close to the entrance. Wyatt won’t be amused to find me waiting in the middle of the street or by the road. He may still be mad that I came outside myself rather than wait inside for him.

My neat coat is hugged tightly around me. It is cold tonight. Suddenly, it feels like a pair of eyes is on me. I turn around to see a group of three guys. They are staring at me, whispering and smirking, and it is making me feel uneasy.

I quickly turn away. I don’t want them to get the wrong idea and think I am interested. They continue to stare; I can feel it. It is making me more anxious. I should have stayed inside. They could be harmless, but you never know.

Wyatt, hurry up!

I see one of them approach from the corner of my eye. The second he gets close, I make sure he knows I am not interested.

“Go away. I have a boyfriend,” I say firmly, without even looking at him.

I expect him to walk away, but he doesn’t. He steps closer to me and rests one hand on the wall next to my head.

I finally look at him. He is a big guy in terms of height and width. It doesn’t matter to me. If he comes any closer, I will knee him in the balls and his friends, too, if they try to start anything.

“Don’t call me that. Go away. I am not interested.”

He is getting on my last nerve. I’d prefer him to be gone before Wyatt arrives. I don’t want any fights to break out.

I don’t see him and… He smirks, going to reach…

“Right here. You touch her, I will break your fingers. All of them. You have two seconds to back away from my girlfriend, or I will have you on the ground before you can manage the word ‘no.’ ” Wyatt is standing behind him, anger in his eyes.

His expression changes dramatically. The guy holds his hands up, takes a quick glance at Wyatt, and walks away. He would be a dead man.

I nod. “Yes, I am fine. I promise. Thank you.” I lean in and kiss him softly…
