Chapter Sixty-Four – She Has the Right To Be Mad
Despite not falling asleep until late, I’m awake after just a few hours of sleep. My head is pounding, but other than that, I feel alright. I turned off Alyssa’s alarm. Today, we won’t be going to the office. We’re getting out of town for the day. I behaved poorly last night, and I intend to make it right today. I shouldn’t have spoken to her how I did. I sure as hell shouldn’t have said my life and past are none of her business. That was harsh of me. She is part of my life now, and it is her business. More so my life than my past.
Once she discovers it, she won’t be happy that I switched off her alarm without informing her. Since I’m the boss, I have the authority to make that decision. I emailed the receptionist to tell her we wouldn’t be in today because we had to work outside of the office. I added instructions for what my employees must do today.
I’m hoping Alyssa stays asleep so I can go out and get breakfast. I would make it, but she doesn’t have much in for it. I make sure to be quiet as I leave. The café that Alyssa loves is just a short distance from her apartment building. I go inside, and fortunately, it’s not too crowded. The wait shouldn’t be too long.
“What can I get you, sweetie?” the woman behind the counter asks.
“Hi there, I would like the cheese and red pepper omelette, please. A protein breakfast wrap. I’ll take an Americano and a latte, both in large sizes. Also, do you happen to have any of your white chocolate and raspberry muffins today? Those are my girlfriend’s favourites.”
That’s the first time I’ve said it out loud. It makes me smile.
“Ah, now I remember where I know you from. You have been in before with Alyssa,” she says.
I nod. “That’s correct.”
“To answer your question, yes, we do have those in. They are still warm. How many do you want?”
“Great, thank you. I’d like a couple, please.”
I pay for the order and step aside to wait. I check my cell phone to see if Alyssa called or sent any angry texts because I turned off her alarm. There’s nothing. She must still be asleep. I’m unsure if she’ll forgive me for how I acted last night. I wouldn’t hold it against her if she chose not to. If I’m not cautious, she might tell me to go to hell.
While waiting, I sent a few emails. I don’t plan on doing any work today. I am going to switch my cell off. I need to prioritize Alyssa above all else.
“Your order is ready, sweetie. I’ve also thrown in a couple of white chocolate cookies. Alyssa loves those.” She smiles.
I thank her and get on my way to the apartment. Alyssa is still fast asleep when I arrive. I place all the items on plates and pour her coffee into her favourite mug. I place everything on a tray and stroll to the bedroom.
Taking a seat on the edge of the bed, I carefully set it down. With my thumb, I gently stroke her cheek. She groans but doesn’t wake up. I plant a gentle kiss on her lips, and that works.
“Wyatt, what time is it?”
It’s adorable how her voice sounds when she wakes up.
“The time is half past eight.”
She quickly shoots up, “Fuck, we are going to be late for work.”
“No, we aren’t. There’s no work for us today. I turned your alarm off for a reason.”
Alyssa gives me a hostile look, “What the hell made you do that?”
“Today, we’re escaping this place.”
She stares at me, not saying a word. “You didn’t think to ask? Honestly, I thought you’d have left before I woke up.”
She is still mad. I express my frustration by sighing and ruffling my hair with my fingers. “I am sorry about my behaviour and the things I said last night, kitten. I acted like an asshole. You didn’t deserve that.”
“No, I didn’t.”
“I’m determined to make it up to you today. I got breakfast for both of us. I got those muffins you like.” I smile.
“Thank you.”
She is not willing to forgive me yet. I won’t force it. She will forgive me when she is ready. I grab the tray and move to sit on the opposite side of her. She goes directly for a muffin.
“Alyssa, you should eat your omelette before it becomes cold.”
She ignores me and eats the muffin. I groan in annoyance, something I soon regret because her eyes burn into me. “I will eat what I like. I am annoyed at you; you don’t get to tell me what to do today.”
Isn’t she overreacting a little? Or perhaps it is because I’m not used to my subs standing up to me. I clench my jaw tightly as I grip the sheets with one hand. It’s not the right time for me to switch to Dom mode now. It will only worsen the situation. Occasionally, she intentionally provokes me because she anticipates my reaction. Punishing my subs is not a problem for me, especially when they display bratty behaviour. Though, this situation is different. It’s not her who is at fault; I am.
I respond with a defeated, “Okay.”
She dismisses me with an eye roll and looks away. I try to eat breakfast but end up playing with it instead. I’ve lost my appetite. Awkwardness fills the air as silence settles between us. I despise it.
“Alyssa, I understand you’re angry with me, and rightfully so, but would you still spend the day with me? Can I take you away for the day?”
Her gaze shifts towards me. I touch her knee. I plead to her with my eyes.
“I’m unsure about whether I want to do that.”
“Please? Allow me to make it up to you.”
“I have to give it some thought. Thank you for breakfast.”
She rises from bed and heads to the bathroom, locking the door. Making her forgive me is proving to be more difficult than I anticipated. I really fucked up. It seems like my words made her feel insignificant to me. It’s the farthest thing from being true.
My only hope is that she agrees to spend the day with me. My intention is to bring her to my lake cabin. It’s stunning and located in a remote area. I am the owner of both the cabin and the adjacent land. There isn’t another cabin for miles. It’s a secret place unknown to everyone. It’s where I escape to. If Alyssa agrees to come, she will love it. It’s only an hour’s drive from here. We have the option to either spend the whole day and drive back late tonight or stay overnight.
I will refrain from asking her again. If she wants to come, she can tell me.
