Chapter Seventy – You Know That, Right? - 1

“Alexis, I need to go and find my girlfriend,” I say. I’ve known Alexis for quite some time. She never fails to flirt and make advances towards me. I should have known she was here; she has been a family friend for a while. This is my third time telling her. I don’t allow her to say anything or try to hinder me. I walk away to find Alyssa. She will be angry because she was left by herself. I shouldn’t have let her leave my side.

I scan the room and find her sitting alone at the bar. The bartender appears to be getting overly friendly with my girl. My fist tightens, and my jaw clenches. I stroll over and stand behind her.

“Alyssa, what are you doing?” I hiss and glare at the barman.

With a giggle, she twirls on the stool.

“Oh, so you have remembered I am here. Did you get bored with your cougar?” Every word is dripping with sarcasm.

“What are you talking about? How much have you had to drink?”

She rolls her eyes. “You know what I am talking about. Who is she? A former fuck you had?” she hisses in a hushed tone.

“You’re being overly dramatic, kitten.”

“Whatever.” She says and turns her back to me, getting back to her conversation with the barman.

“Aren’t you supposed to be working?” I angrily retort to him.

“Yes, sir.” He replies and hurries off.

I lean closer and whisper, “Do I have to remind you of who you belong to?”

In reaction, she lets out whimpers and shudders. I swing her around to make her face me again.

Alyssa crosses her arms. “What? I can’t talk to anyone, but it’s okay for you to flirt with someone else?”

I move closer and gently separate her legs. I have to be cautious about my actions and words, especially in crowded situations.

“I assure you; I wasn’t flirting. She was flirting with me, just like you were flirting with him.” I snap.

“Yes, you were. I was not. I was having a conversation because I was alone. What did you want me to do?”

“I was not flirting. You should have come back to where I was. Alyssa, you should have let me know before disappearing like that.”

Shaking her head, she hops off the stool and walks off. Where the hell is she going now? Why is she acting like such a brat? Reluctantly, I groan and go after her. I don’t want us to make a scene. She walked away, probably because she didn’t either. I believe her behaviour stems from jealousy.

Alyssa disappears into the bathroom. I impatiently wait outside. I think it’s time for us to go. Leaning against the wall, I tap my foot on the ground. She emerges after a few minutes.

“Did you really follow me to the bathroom?” She complains.

I don’t answer with words; I grasp her hand and guide her discreetly into a corner, hidden from sight. I back her into a corner, keeping her pinned against the wall. My hand falls on her throat. She lets out a gasp and a whimper.

“Why are you acting like such a brat?”

“I am not.” She breathes out.

I tighten my hand and watch as her eyes dance with desire. “Yes, you are. Are you trying to piss me off? If so, it is working.”

“No, sir.”

“Were you jealous? Is that what was wrong?”

“No. I don’t get jealous.” She exclaims.

I laugh loudly, “Maybe not in the past, but you do when it comes to me. You despise the thought of any other woman looking my way. Your stubborn ass won’t admit it.”

She crosses her arms over her chest and huffs, “I don’t care. You have the freedom to talk and flirt with whomever you please.”

So, this is the game she wants to play? Okay, I will play. I release my grip on her throat and distance myself from her.

“If I were to go and flirt with someone right now, would you even care?”

She shakes her head. I nod and walk away. I’m curious to test her limits and see when she will finally snap. Although I don’t want to, I’ll do it to demonstrate a point. I look around and spot someone I know. Not Alexis, that would be too much. I approach Selena. We had a brief fling, quite some time ago.

“Hey, it’s been some time. How have you been?” I ask.

“Hey, Wyatt. Yes, it has been a while. I’m doing well. You?” she replies and places her hand on my arm, flashing her smile at me.

I allow the conversation to continue, and things get a little flirty. It takes two minutes before Alyssa appears. She directs her glare towards me, but then her focus shifts to Selena.

“Could you kindly refrain from flirting with my boyfriend? He isn’t interested. He only came over to annoy me.”

I suppress a smirk by biting my lip. Despite her confusion, Selena raises her hands and walks away. Alyssa, with a furious expression, positions herself in front of me.

“Did that give you a thrill?”

“Not really, no. I just wanted to make a point.”

“Whatever. I’m ready to head home now. Whether you accompany me or choose to stay, it doesn’t matter to me.”

I tightly hold her hip and pull her closer. “Don’t act that way, kitten.”

“I’m not acting like anything. I want to leave now.”

I attempt to kiss her, but she avoids my lips. I think I may have taken it too far. Placing my hand on her cheek, I bring her attention towards me. I am met with a blank stare from her.

“I am sorry. I acted like an idiot. Alyssa, you’re the only one who interests me. You know that, don’t you?”

“Not really,” she sighs.

Does she genuinely believe that I desire to be with other women? I thought I made it clear, clearly not. Given all that we’ve experienced this week, I genuinely think she was aware.

I gently brushed her hair away from her face. Closing her eyes, she let out a sigh.

“Alyssa, you’re the only one I want, beautiful. I assure you. I only have eyes for you.”

Her eyes become gentle. “Can you make a promise?” She murmurs.

I kiss her softly, “I promise. You called me your boyfriend, so I can’t go anywhere now.” I smirk.

She giggles and blushes, “Sorry. It accidentally came out.”

“I have no objections. Do you still want to leave?”

“Yes, please. I think I’ve had my fill of business discussions and drama for tonight.”

“Alright, sweetheart, we can go now,” I say, planting a kiss on her forehead. “I will get the car to come.”

Thanking me, she embraces me and hides her face in my chest. I hug her tightly and rub her back. We separate after a moment. I quickly call my driver. I grasp her hand, and together we go around saying our goodbyes.

Alyssa leans her head on my shoulder once we’re in the car. I slip my arm around her and kiss the top of her head. She nestles in, snuggling close. If she hadn’t accepted my apology, the night could have ended differently. I am happy that it didn’t.
