Listen to this chapter:

At the engagement party, Rachel, dressed in an extravagant white gown, looked delicate and youthful, her makeup perfect. Clint, in a custom-made white suit, stood out with his tall, handsome figure. His friends surrounded him, looking happy. He responded casually to their words but kept glancing at the entrance.

With less than fifteen minutes until the party was supposed to start, Frida still hadn't arrived. Impatience grew within Clint. He forced himself to suppress his frustration and downed his glass of water.

When only two minutes remained, he checked his watch. "Are all the guests here?" His tone was craven, devoid of genuine concern.

"Of course. The engagement party is about to start; all the guests are here. We're just waiting for you and Rachel," someone replied.

Clint suppressed his irritation and stood up. "Let's go."

The hall was filled with guests dressed in fine clothes. Rachel, surrounded by friends, radiated joy and shyness. Clint, however, still saw no sign of Frida. His impatience deepened. He glanced again toward the entrance, but nothing unusual occurred.

Rachel shyly approached, linking her arm with his. "Clint," she whispered, "The engagement party is about to start. I'm a little nervous."

"It's just an engagement party; what's there to be nervous about...?" Clint brushed her off, but his gaze froze on her earrings. He looked closer.

"I'm nervous because this engagement party is so important to me. Ah!" Rachel cried out in pain, and everyone's attention turned to Clint. His face went ashen. "Where did you get that bracelet and those earrings?"

These were pieces from the jewelry box he had given Frida five years earlier, when he was courting her. Frida had treasured them; why were they now on Rachel?

Clint grabbed Rachel's wrist, his fingers tightening. Rachel cried out in pain, tears welling up. "Clint, you're hurting me!"

"Explain!" Clint's eyes blazed with rage.

Rachel trembled, her voice breaking. "They were taken from the box Frida gave to Assistant Antolin..."

"They were so beautiful; I thought it would be a shame to throw them away, so I kept them without asking," she explained. She was an ordinary college student, unaccustomed to such luxury. Though Clint had given her expensive jewelry, nothing compared to the contents of that box. Every girl loves beauty, and in a moment of greed, she had taken them without thinking. But she never expected Clint to react this way, and now deeply regretted it.

Clint had never been so angry. He never imagined Frida would discard such a precious box. Its significance was clear to both of them. When he had given it to her, she had sweetly promised that when they married, she would keep it by her side for life. Now, she had simply thrown it away.

A surge of anger filled Clint, but he couldn't contain it. The earrings Rachel wore felt like a sharp pain to his eyes. He reached out and, almost violently, tore the earrings from her ears.

Then he shouted, "Get everything from the jewelry box back to me, all of it! If even one piece is missing, I'll..." Without another word, Clint turned and stormed out of the room, leaving his family and friends behind.
