โThis student, Alarieka, made it very clear: as long as you were willing to go to the hospital for a check-up, we were willing to pay your medical bills and give you the corresponding legal compensation.โ
โIf you didnโt cooperate, we also refused to accept responsibility.โ
Alarieka was a bit out of it.
The Jaylene now already looked like she had the decisiveness and sharp mind she had in her previous life.
The girl lifted her pale little face and stared at them.
โWhat are you still checking for? I just ate your food, nothing else, so it could only be your problem! You guys still wonโt admit it. You might go back on your word after I go to the hospital.โ
The girl rolled her eyes and said, โYou guys give me the money first, then Iโll be willing to go to the hospital with you.โ
Alarieka just said, โSorry.โ
Alarieka and Jayleneโs quick refunds and straightforward way of handling things made people around them gradually start to trust them.
The girl obviously didnโt want to go to the hospital, and with all those scam stories in the news, peopleโs looks changed from sympathy to suspicion.
But that wasnโt enough; people around were already getting suspicious, so I had to prove my innocence to keep the customers.
Otherwise, if customers got suspicious, they would choose other barbecue stalls, and then it would be hard for their barbecue stall to keep going.
Alaricka ignored the girlโs cries and turned to give Jaylene a look.
The two of them started to clean up the barbecue stand together without saying a word.
The girlโs wailing faded away in the awkward atmosphere where no one paid attention to her.
The girl had a pale face, held her stomach, and walked past Alarieka in big strides.
โAlarieka, pay up, hurry up and pay!โ
Alarieka looked down and packed her bag, saying in a calm voice, โWhatโs your relationship with Clarissa?โ
The girl obviously didnโt expect her to ask that kind of question, and she was stunned right away.
โWhatโฆ what Clarissa? I had nothing to do with her, donโt drag others in!โ
Alarieka turned back to look at her with a half-smile, โWerenโt you having a stomachache? How come you sound so energetic?โ
The girlโs face turned red. She gritted her teeth and said, โIt hurt, but I was even angrier.โ
โThen just stay mad.โ
Alarieka didnโt bother anymore, got on the tricycle, and left with Jaylene, leaving that girl behind yelling and shouting.
Although I wasnโt completely sure and didnโt have solid proof, Clarissa was probably the one behind this.
Alaricka wasnโt surprised at all that Clarissa would do this.
She was going to find Clarissa.
The sooner we solved this, the sooner Jaylene could get back out there.
Tonight, the Argent family held a charity dinner. Like before, most of the Argent family went, including Clarissa.
The wind was strong and chilly at night, and even though Alarieka was wearing her school jacket, she still felt cold.
The place the Argent family picked this time was a courtyard. There were three-meter-high walls around the yard outside. It wasnโt too hard to get in.
Alarieka quietly climbed up the wall by the back door, then quietly dropped down again, landing without a sound.
She hid behind the tree trunk, carefully watching the people passing by.
Alarieka dodged the people around and slipped into a lounge.
The lights in the lounge werenโt on. After closing the door, Alarieka turned them on.
โWho was it?โ
It was really, really quiet around. Alarieka could even hear her own light breathing, like there was no life around.
So when Kieranโs cold and sharp voice came out, Alarieka got goosebumps all over.
โWhy did you come?โ
Alaricka gave a little shiver, turned around, and looked at the man sitting in the corner of the sofa, her face a bit pale.
Kieran was dressed in a suit, his upper body leaning slightly against the back of the sofa. The tie around his neck was loosely undone. His well-tailored white shirt and jacket fit him perfectly.
He tilted his head back and closed his eyes to rest, his neck arched. The lines of his neck were smooth and sharp, and his Adamโs apple stuck out, moving up and down on his neck. His voice was low.
When she saw it was Kieran, Alarieka didnโt relax either.
She slowly stepped back a few paces and said calmly, โIโm looking for Clarissa.โ
Kieran opened his eyes. He didnโt look at her right away. His eyes stared into space. โI remember this charity dinner didnโt invite you.โ
The next moment, Kieranโs narrow, dark eyes looked at her, cold: โWithout an invitation, you couldnโt come in through the front door, so where did you come in from, and how did you end up hiding here?โ
