Chapter 258

Listen to this chapter:

No one would believe a high-school dropout. No one would risk doubting or crossing Rose for her sake.

After repeated failed attempts, sheโ€™d eventually given up and buried the matter.

But Palomaโ€™s words reignited a spark of hope.

She whispered, โ€œLindsey was my mentorโ€“the one who guided me into this world. She wasnโ€™t some alias Rose used. She was a living, breathing person. Her entire life revolved around the piano. Her skills were exceptional; her compositions were exquisite. Yet she remained obscure, utterly unknown. That obscurityโ€ฆ it destroys people.โ€

Palomaโ€™s gaze froze.

Alarieka continued, โ€œShe took her own life. Before dying, she left behind a self-composed piano pieceโ€“โ€˜Aspirationโ€˜โ€“created on June 26, 2021. The video I showed you was filmed on June 27. She died on the 28th.โ€

Palomaโ€™s brows gradually knitted together.

Alarieka said, โ€œYou can hear it too. Lindseyโ€™s โ€˜Aspirationโ€˜ and Roseโ€™s โ€˜My Loveโ€˜ are nearly identical. To a laymanโ€™s ear, theyโ€™d sound like the same piece.โ€

โ€œIโ€™ve checked. Rose released โ€˜My Loveโ€˜ on October 15, 2022.โ€

Alariekaโ€™s expression hardened. โ€œMs. Wyatt, Rose plagiarized Lindsey.โ€

Palomaโ€™s eyes flickered, her frown deepening.

This was within her expectations, but Roseโ€™s defense during the finals had beenโ€ฆ

Reading Palomaโ€™s hesitation, Alariekaโ€™s heart sank. She stated bluntly, โ€œI never heard Lindsey had online friends. Roseโ€™s claims are absurd.โ€

โ€œThe Whitaker family has power and resources. Promoting a pianist wouldโ€™ve been effortless. Why resort to plagiarism to โ€˜boost Lindseyโ€™s profileโ€˜ and invite scandal?โ€

โ€œThat explanation reeks of a plagiarism coverโ€“up.โ€

Alarieka spoke with increasing urgency, her voice trembling.

Paloma Wyatt tightened her grip on her hand: โ€œI understand, I believe you. Thereโ€™s no need to rush.โ€

โ€œSo, is this why you entered the Mcintosh Piano Competition?โ€ Paloma asked.

Alarieka nodded: โ€œYes, solely for this reason. Thatโ€™s why I didnโ€™t play my own composition in the finals, but โ€˜Aspirationโ€˜ instead.โ€

Only to have Rose stir up trouble in the end, letting the plagiarism accusation fade without resolution.

Worry lines creased Palomaโ€™s brow: โ€œBut if Mr. Argent intervenes, itโ€™ll be messy. Even if Rose is proven guilty, he could sway public opinion her way. Then sheโ€™d emerge as the loyal friend willing to take risks.โ€

โ€œMy dear, I understand,โ€ Alarieka offered a faint smile. โ€œKnowing just one person believes me makes me happy.โ€

Paloma sighed: โ€œI once had such high hopes for Rose. Never imagined sheโ€™d sink this low. At least I caught it in time, didnโ€™t lose a promising talent like you because of her.โ€

Paloma reflected.

Sheโ€™d truly considered Roschelle Whitaker her student, offering guidance and care. Plagiarism was unthinkable โ€“ a line no pianist should ever cross.

Rose had crossed it. No point in regrets. Clean break needed.

Thankfully, her sharp eyes hadnโ€™t mistaken fish eyes for pearls.

โ€œThis needs careful planning. We canโ€™t move against Rose yet.โ€

Alarieka nodded: โ€œI understand.โ€

Paloma patted her hand gently: โ€œRest well now. I need to finalize scores with the other judges. Iโ€™ll visit tomorrow.โ€

Alarieka said: โ€œPlease donโ€™t worry about me. Iโ€™ll be fine here.โ€

Paloma hesitated, then decided Alarieka deserved the truth.

โ€œAlarieka, your final scoreโ€ฆ it wonโ€™t be good. Prepare yourself.โ€

Theโ€“plagiarism scandal had derailed Alariekaโ€™s performance. A high score was impossible.

โ€œThen thereโ€™s Roschelle Whitaker.โ€

Paloma Wyatt paused before continuing. โ€œRegarding Lindsey Weaverโ€™s situation, no conclusion has been reached yet. Therefore, her final competition results wonโ€™t be affected. Even if plagiarism is confirmed, the organizers lack authority to revoke her scores since her chosen piano piece for finals wasnโ€™t involved. At most, Roschelle Whitaker would face a competition ban.โ€

Alariekaโ€™s eyes flickered.

Knowing Rose, that supposedly โ€œoriginalโ€ piano piece for finals was likely someone elseโ€™s work tooโ€“either plagiarized or purchased at a high price.
