Only the Argent family could have done this for Clarissa.
Alaricka shut her eyes tightly, her face paling. She knew she meant nothing to the Argent family, but she never imagined they would act so brazenly.
A female officer suddenly held her hand. โMs. Huston, whatโs wrong? Your hands are shaking so much.โ
Alaricka shook her head, dazed. โI need to find someone. Wait for me a moment.โ
When she left the police station, Alaricka called Kieran. Only Kieran could handle such matters so quickly. Only him.
No one answered for a long time, so long that Alaricka nearly lost patience. Just as she was about to hang up, the call was answered, but it was Kieranโs assistant.
โMs. Huston, Mr. Argent is in a meeting and canโt take the call. Can I take a message?โ
Right after he spoke, Roschelleโs voice came through. โKier, Iโm coming in.โ
Alaricka scoffed. โThis is what you call a meeting?โ
The assistant was silent for a moment. โMr. Argent asked not to be disturbed. I canโt help it.โ
Alaricka didnโt want to argue with him. โPass the phone to Kieran. I need to talk to him.โ
The assistant fell silent, probably covering the phone to check with Kieran. After a rustle of fabric, Kieranโs deep voice came through. โWhat is it?โ
Alaricka said, โDid you make Ivan transfer schools?โ
Kieranโs tone turned colder. โAre you feeling sorry for him?โ
It was him.
Alaricka clenched her fists tightly. โKieran, are you out of your mind? Heโs just a student, a student!โ
Kieran suddenly sneered. โAlaricka, donโt go too far.โ
โDonโt go too far?โ Alaricka closed her eyes, her heart aching. โIโll say the same words to you.โ
There was another rustle on the line, and then Roschelleโs voice came through.
โAlaricka, I know girls your age can be impulsive, but you canโt do things that harm your body and reputation. You can wait until graduation. Kier did that for your own good.โ
If Roschelleโs voice hadnโt carried a hint of provocation and gloating, Alaricka might have believed the lies.
She said nothing more and hung up. Though Ivan was transferring schools, it had only been half a day, and his family couldnโt move so fast. Alaricka got his address from a teacher and hurried to his home.
Halfway there, her taxi was cut off by an ordinary-looking van. Alaricka stared at it, and an uneasy feeling crept up her spine. The area was quiet with few people and few cars. That van had been tailing them for a while.
The taxi driver rolled down the window and yelled, โWho the hell parks in the middle of the road?โ But before he could finish, three men in black suits stepped out of the van. The driver instantly shut up.
Alaricka slumped back in her seat. One of the bodyguards looked familiar. He worked for Wallace. The moment Alaricka saw him, she knew this matter would never be followed up, at least not now.
The driver was shaking in his seat. She unbuckled, placed some cash on the center console, and said calmly, โThis has nothing to do with you. Iโm getting out.โ
As soon as she stepped out, the bodyguards approached. Their heads were lowered, but their tone was sharp. โMs. Huston, Mr. Argent would like you to return.โ
She walked straight to their car and got in.
At the Argentโs villa.
โI heard what Clarissa did. Youโve been wronged,โ Wallace said. He didnโt look sorry at all. He seemed to calmly assign a task. โYouโre hurt, right? Go to my hospital. Iโll get the best doctors for you.โ
