Chapter 276

The nurse gasped, instinctively stepping forward. โ€œHer ankleโ€™s fractured! Donโ€™t-โ€

The directorโ€™s heavy glare cut her off mid-sentence.

Words died in her throat. She bit her lip, retreated a step, and fell silent.

Gritting her teeth, Alarieka swung her arm toward the womanโ€™s face. The woman laughed coldly, catching her wrist while stomping on Alariekaโ€™s uninjured right leg.

Eyes gleaming with malice, she taunted, โ€œRun! Go on, run! Whyโ€™d you stop?โ€

Alarieka had one leg injured, the other pinned under the womanโ€™s crushing weight. With one hand trapped in the womanโ€™s grip, only her free arm could prop up her upper body while constant, throbbing pain radiated from her fractured ankle.

Immobilized completely, her unbound hair cascaded beside her face. The hospital gown, tugged and pulled during the struggle, gaped open to reveal a stretch of snow-white skin at her waist.

Her face was deathly pale, yet her obsidian eyes burned with fierce, unyielding defiance, locked onto the womanโ€™s gaze.

The hospital corridor stood deserted in the late hour. No one else remained besides Alarieka and this groupโ€”no hope of rescue.

โ€œDown with the wicked woman!โ€

The boy cheered, pumping his fist before darting to the womanโ€™s side. He lifted his foot and kicked Alarieka hard in the stomach.

A pained groan escaped Alarieka. Her pallor deepened as her gaze slowly, deliberately shifted to the boy. Her eyes held a chilling, resolute darknessโ€”like the green glow of a wolfโ€™s eyes in shadowsโ€”making the boy stumble backward to hide behind the woman.

The woman couldnโ€™t bear her precious son subjected to such a stare. โ€œWhat are you looking at?โ€ she snapped. โ€œScare my son again, and I wonโ€™t let you off.โ€

โ€œEnough,โ€ the Director finally interjected from nearby.

The woman blinked. โ€œUncle?โ€

Adjusting his cuff, the Director said, โ€œI have research to review. Iโ€™ll take my leave. Mind your actions.โ€

The woman smiled. โ€œThank you, Uncle. Iโ€™ll bring Victor to visit you soon.โ€

The Director gave a noncommittal hum, his gaze lingering briefly on the exposed curve of Alariekaโ€™s waist with an unreadable look.

Before leaving, he glanced at the nurse, his eyes sharp, his voice detached. โ€œComing?โ€

The nurse flinched, hesitating as she looked at Alarieka.

The Director tugged at his collar. โ€œSuit yourself.โ€

โ€œIโ€™m coming!โ€ the nurse blurted, scrambling after him.

The nurse lowered her head, clutching her uniform at the sides, silently apologizing to Alarieka in her heart before turning to follow the director.

โ€œWait. Not so fast.โ€

The womanโ€™s voice froze the nurse mid-step.

The director adjusted his glasses with a frown, impatience flashing in his eyes. โ€œWhat now?โ€

The woman cooed, โ€œUncle, this nurse hasnโ€™t apologized to Hanghang and me yet.โ€

Understanding dawned on the director, who shot the nurse a pointed look.

The nurse bit her lip, hesitating before murmuring, โ€œIโ€™m sorryโ€ฆ It was my faultโ€ฆโ€

Pleased, the woman waved dismissively. โ€œGo on then. Next time, watch who youโ€™re messing with.โ€

Tears welled in the nurseโ€™s eyes as she hurried away, her hunched figure radiating humiliation.

The directorโ€™s voice turned stern. โ€œThis is a hospital. Donโ€™t overdo it.โ€

The woman beamed. โ€œI know, Uncle. Trust me, Iโ€™ve got this.โ€

As the director turned to leave, Alariekaโ€™s low voice cut through: โ€œA hospital director dares act like this?โ€

The woman whirled around, furious. โ€œShut your mouth! Pay up now!โ€

A calculating gleam entered the directorโ€™s eyes. โ€œIf you canโ€™t payโ€ฆโ€ His gaze slid over Alariekaโ€™s exposed waist, lingering with disdainful suggestiveness. โ€œโ€ฆI could be persuaded to help.โ€ His chuckle was low. โ€œSuch a pity case.โ€

Alariekaโ€™s eyes narrowed to slits.

Every fiber of her being screamed to slap the leer off his face.
