Listen to this chapter:

A thought struck herโ€“could Alarickaโ€™s calm mean something was wrong with the statement? Alaricka was still waiting for her response. Reyna glanced at the densely typed statement in Alariekaโ€™s hand. โ€œMay I see it?โ€ she asked softly. Alarieka casually lifted the thin sheet. โ€œThis?โ€ She handed it over. โ€œGo ahead.โ€ Reyna took it. After just a few lines, her face paled. Her professional composure shattered. โ€œWhat is this?! WHAT IS THIS?!โ€

Eyes wide and red-rimmed with fury, she glared at the principal, the Dean, and others. โ€œThis statementโ€ฆ itโ€™s outrageous!โ€ she spat through clenched teeth. Crushing the paper in her fist, she shouted hoarsely, โ€œAbsolutely not! How dare you bully a child like this? Have you no shame? Are you even fit to be called teachers?! Do you deserve the honor of molding young minds?!โ€ โ€œYouโ€™re not even human!โ€

The principal and Deanโ€™s expressions turned stony. The principal fixed Reyna with an icy stare. โ€œReyna Wright,โ€ he said with a cold laugh, โ€œwatch your tone. Do you want to keep your job?โ€ Reynaโ€™s jaw tightened. โ€œPrincipal, is this what a group of educators produced? Youโ€™re trying to destroy Alarieka! Youโ€™re ruining her life!โ€ The principal snorted, slamming his palm on the desk. โ€œReyna Wright, I havenโ€™t even addressed the damage Alariekaโ€™s caused this schoolโ€™s reputation! All we asked was for her to issue a statement. How is that โ€˜ruiningโ€˜ her? I wonโ€™t tolerate such accusations.โ€ A teacher lurking in the corner chuckled darkly, voice dripping with sarcasm. โ€œDid Reyna Wright forget she nearly got fired not long ago? Eager for round two? Ahโ€ฆ perhaps she wants to be expelled alongside Alarieka?โ€ After she finished speaking, the principal snorted coldly. Reynaโ€™s eyes turned even redder, her body trembling with rage: โ€œYouโ€ฆ are going too far!โ€

The principal said in a low voice: โ€œReyna, I think you should go home and rest for a while. With your emotions so unstable, I canโ€™t trust you to teach. What if you lead the students astray? How would I explain that to their parents? Donโ€™t you agree?โ€ Reyna was about to explode with fury. These people were obviously targeting Alarieka. She could hardly believe the school would actually force Alarieka to publicly post that statement online. She had originally wanted Alarieka Huston to compromise for her studies and academic standing, to apologize to Roschelle Whitaker as the school demanded. But now it seemed completely unnecessaryโ€“the school hadnโ€™t treated Alarieka Huston as human at all. โ€œYou-โ€ Sheโ€™d barely spoken when someone cut her off. โ€œReyna Wright.โ€ It was Alarieka Hustonโ€™s steady, calm voiceโ€“cool and serene, like a splash of clear pond water washing over her heart, slowly soothing her fiery temper until the anger simmered down beneath that voice. She took a deep breath, forcing herself to steady: โ€œAlarieka, letโ€™s go.โ€ As the words fell, the Dean stepped forward, glaring: โ€œWho said you could leave?โ€ Seeing Reyna Wrightโ€™s fury flare again, Alarieka Huston swiftly moved, grasping her wrist, pulling her behind, and smoothly taking the statement from her hand. Alarieka Huston tilted her head, whispering: โ€œReyna Wright, let me handle this. Just relax.โ€ Reyna Wright frowned: โ€œAlarieka, you-โ€ Alarieka Huston smiled softly: โ€œTeacher, trust me, okay?โ€ Worry, tension, and anger flickered in Reyna Wrightโ€™s eyes before fading under that calm gaze: โ€œFine. I trust you.โ€ Watching Alarieka Hustonโ€™s now-taller frame, Reyna Wright thought: Damn it. Iโ€™m the teacher, yet Iโ€™m putting all my faith in a student. Feels like sheโ€™s more reliable than I am.

The Dean narrowed his eyes, sizing up Alaricka Huston: โ€œAlarieka Huston, whatโ€™s your game now?โ€ Instead of answering, Alaricka Huston glanced at the statement:
