Chapter 343
Even if just to settle accounts for the sake of her only daughter from her past life.
When Kieran returned to his residence outside the city, dawn was breaking โ 5:30 AM.
Rose hadnโt slept all night, sitting alone in the living room. The lights remained on. The moment Kieran entered, he saw Rose on the sofa.
Noticing her thin nightgown, Kieranโs brow instinctively furrowed. He walked over barefoot, grabbed the throw blanket from the couch, and draped it over Roseโs shoulders. โWhy didnโt you rest in your room?โ he murmured.
Roseโs face was pale, her eyes fixed intently on Kieran.
โKieranโฆโ
Kieran adjusted the blanket around her shoulders and gave a low hum of acknowledgment.
Rose threw her arms around him, burying her face against his chest, her voice muffled.
โKieran, I waited all night for youโฆ waited and waitedโฆโ
Kieran placed his hand firmly over her shoulder. โIโm back now,โ he said quietly.
Rose raised her face, her eyes charming and pitiful: โHmm, itโs good that youโre back.โ
Kieran lowered his eyelids, saw the dark circles under Roseโs eyes, and gently pushed her shoulder: โGo get some rest first.โ
Rose held onto Kieranโs hand: โI want you to stay with me all the time.โ
Years of a stable biological clock made Kieran, even after running around all night, still wake up on time at eight oโclock.
When he woke up, his neck was a bit sore; he raised his hand and rubbed it, his brow furrowed with a bit of impatient morning grumpiness, and opened his eyes.
It was his own room, except he hadnโt been sleeping in bed. Heโd dozed off half-propped against the headboard, one leg stretched across the mattress while the other rested on the floor. His head had remained tilted against the wall all night without shifting, leaving his neck stiff and sore.
Kieran slowly blinked away the grogginess.
He looked down at Roschelle Whitaker still asleep beside him, nestled under the covers.
His arm lay trapped beneath the duvet. Gently, he tried sliding it free.
For hours earlier, no matter how he coaxed her, Rose had refused to release his hand, insisting he stay.
Exhausted from the nightโs turmoil, he hadnโt argued, eventually drifting off against the headboard.
Now her grip had loosened in sleep. He withdrew his hand effortlessly without waking her.
Kieran stood by the bed, massaging his temples before grabbing his phone. Wallace Argentโs message glared from the screen:
[Come to the Argentโs villa when you wake. We need to talk.]
Kieranโs long fingers tapped: [On my way.]
After replying to work messages, he headed to the ensuite bathroom to freshen up.
Breakfast passed with Rose still sleeping peacefully.
Kieran reminded the housekeeper: โHeat her meal when she wakes.โ
โYes, sir,โ the housekeeper smiled. โYouโve told me many times already.โ
She noted how the pregnant mistress always slept past ten nowadays. Mr. Argentโs repeated instructions were unnecessary โ sheโd long memorized the routine. Breakfast would be served precisely when the lady awoke. Without fail.
Kieran nodded and left.
The Argentโs Villa
Wallace Argent studied his grandsonโs impassive expression across the tea table. Chuckling dryly, he sipped his tea. โAlarieka didnโt follow you back, I presume?โ
Kieran gave a noncommittal hum, as though Alarieka barely spared a thought.
Exactly the attitude his grandson should maintain toward that woman. Satisfaction glimmered in Wallaceโs eyes. โSince sheโs gone, focus on what matters. Cherish the one you have now.โ
Both knew precisely who โthe oneโ referred to.
Another acknowledging hum from Kieran.
Wallace added, โIncidentally, I released your surveillance team this morning. They shouldโve reported in.โ
The men Kieran had assigned to track Alarieka.
โI saw the update,โ Kieran replied flatly.
