Chapter 355

His cowering expression made Jaylene scowl. She slammed the table: โ€œSpit it out! Stop beating around the bush!โ€

Nie Guanyu flinched, studying Jayleneโ€™s face before whispering: โ€œYouโ€™re mad? Why are you angry again?โ€

Jaylene nearly laughed in frustration: โ€œWhy am I angry again? Explain yourselfโ€”whatโ€™s this again nonsense?โ€

Nie Guanyu dropped his gaze entirely, murmuring after a pause: โ€œDonโ€™t be angry.โ€

Amused, Alarieka patted Jayleneโ€™s shoulder: โ€œRelax. Let him speak.โ€ Turning to Nie Guanyu, she asked: โ€œWhat did you want to say?โ€

He glanced at her fleetingly before staring at the table: โ€œDo you know Roschelle Whitaker?โ€

Hearing Roseโ€™s name, Jaylene reacted more fiercely than Alarieka.

Jayleneโ€™s eyes narrowed at Nie Guanyu: โ€œWhy ask about Rose? Do you know her? How? Planning to defend her?โ€

Jaylene Irwin could never forget what Roschelle Whitaker had done. Every time she mentioned Roschelle, sheโ€™d curse for ages. By now, sheโ€™d already cursed Roschelleโ€™s ancestors eighteen generations back. Sometimes sheโ€™d even curse a few strands of Roschelleโ€™s hair.

Question after question piled up, making Victorโ€™s head hang lower and lower until his chin almost touched his chest.

Though packed with customers, the trendy coffee shop stayed quiet. The loudest sounds were camera shutters clicking and hushed conversations. Jayleneโ€™s voice rose above the murmur, drawing unfriendly stares from all around.

Alarieka tugged Jayleneโ€™s sleeve, whispering, โ€œAlright, calm down. Everyoneโ€™s looking at us.โ€

Jaylene belatedly noticed everyoneโ€™s gazes before glaring at Nie Guanyu. This was all his fault!

Unfortunately, Nie Guanyu kept his head down, oblivious to her stare.

Alarieka also wanted to know the true nature of Nie Guanyuโ€™s relationship with Roschelle Whitakerโ€”it determined whether he could be trusted.

In his past life, Nie Guanyuโ€™s feelings for Roschelle Whitaker were no secret; most people around him knew, including Jaylene.

But Alarieka remained uncertain whether Nie Guanyu had played any role in Kieranโ€™s acquisition of the tech company Jaylene had painstakingly built.

Or more bluntlyโ€”had Nie Guanyu, driven by his affection for Roschelle Whitaker, pledged allegiance to Kieran and helped him seize Jayleneโ€™s company?

This question had haunted her.

Alarieka quietly observed Nie Guanyuโ€™s lowered head. โ€œI do know her. So you came to me after seeing those things online?โ€

Nie Guanyu lifted his head, meeting her gaze earnestly. โ€œYes. She mentioned having depressive tendencies.โ€

Jaylene frowned. โ€œWhat does her having depressive tendencies have to do with you? Why are you meddling in othersโ€™ business?โ€

Nie Guanyu looked helplessly at Jaylene, lips parting then closing. He looked like he had something to say but was holding back.

Alarieka said, โ€œIโ€™m not sure about that. If you want to know, ask her yourself.โ€ Her calm eyes tracked Nie Guanyuโ€™s expression, catching the fleeting disappointment that shadowed his face.

Nie Guanyu shook his head, murmuring, โ€œI donโ€™t have her contact.โ€

Alarieka chuckled softly. โ€œYou care that much about her? I have her number. I could ask if youโ€™d like.โ€

Nie Guanyuโ€™s eyes snapped upโ€”the perpetual dullness briefly lifting before dimming again. โ€œโ€ฆNo need. She doesnโ€™t know me. I shouldnโ€™t bother her.โ€

Jayleneโ€™s frown deepened. A strong premonition made her lean in, trying to read Nie Guanyuโ€™s expression.

Alarieka stated coolly, โ€œBut if you saw those posts, youโ€™d know Roschelle Whitaker and I arenโ€™t on good terms. Didnโ€™t you notice?โ€

Nie Guanyu suddenly raised his head, studying Alariekaโ€™s face cautiously. โ€œโ€ฆAre you angry too?โ€

Alarieka smiled. โ€œIโ€™m just surprised youโ€™d ask me about her.โ€

Nie Guanyuโ€™s lips trembled, cheeks flushing faintly as his eyes darted around. โ€œIโ€ฆ I donโ€™t know anyone else. Youโ€™re the only one I could ask.โ€

Watching him, Alarieka drew three conclusions.

First: Nie Guanyu didnโ€™t hide his thoughts or overcomplicate things.
