The moment his fingers closed around her, he jerked back as if touching something filthy, flinging her hand away.

Alarieka froze, meeting his blazing eyes.

She pulled her hand back, scowling down at him. “What’s your problem? Losing it again?”

He’d already thrown her hand off once in the alley. Again?!

Victor kept glaring, cheeks flushing deeper, chest heaving with each furious breath.

The longer Alarieka watched him, the more convinced she was he’d lost his mind. “Are you actually insane?”

Victor bit out, “You’re the crazy one.”

With that, he huffily shut his eyes, turning his head away to give her the back of his head.

Alarieka’s gaze landed on his flushed ear. She asked suspiciously, “Your ears are bright red. Should I call the doctor back?”

“Don’t.”

His tone was firm.

Alarieka felt dismissed and pursed her lips to leave.

The moment she shifted her weight, Victor spoke through clenched teeth as if struggling.

“I’m telling you, I won’t agree to it.”

Alarieka: ?

What the hell?

Alarieka asked blankly, “Agree to what?”

Victor’s voice stiffened: “Anyway, don’t even think about it.”

Alarieka wondered if she’d lost her memory or gone insane; otherwise, how could she not understand him?

“Dude, what are you talking about? Are you even speaking Chinese?”

Victor suddenly sat bolt upright, glaring as if provoked: “You got attracted to my looks! Then you took advantage when I was drugged with traditional Chinese medicine! Did something inappropriate! Started having unrealistic fantasies! I’m telling you–I’ll never like you!”

Alarieka: ?

Victor declared firmly: “And don’t dream about me being your boyfriend!”

Alarieka genuinely started doubting her own memory.

Had she forgotten confessing to Victor after being attracted to his looks?

But that’s impossible.

Alarieka stared at him with unsettling calmness and concluded, “Shi Yao, you’ve got issues.”

Shi Yao’s eyes widened in disbelief. “You’re saying I’ve got issues just because I turned you down?”

Shi Yao genuinely got mad, burrowing back under the covers and turning his back to her. “Get out! I don’t wanna see you!”

Alarieka wanted to leave too, but the entire ward fell silent, echoing only their voices. Now every patient was staring at her.

Their gazes mixed pity with scorn–pity for her “confession” being “rejected,” scorn for insulting Shi Yao’s sanity after the “rejection.”

Alarieka froze mid-step.

She had to clear this up publicly, or her reputation would tank.

Standing bedside, she yanked Shi Yao’s blanket. “Look, there’s a real misunderstanding here.”

Shi Yao gritted his teeth. “What’re you doing?”

He tugged the blanket back, looking like a violated innocent.

Alarieka kept her cool. “You’ve got it all wrong.”

Shi Yao stiffened, refusing to face her. “No misunderstanding. Just leave!”

Alarieka opened her mouth to explain but realized she didn’t even know where the mix-up started.

She eyed his turned back calmly. “I never confessed to you. Why the drama?”

Shi Yao’s ears flushed crimson, like ripe apples.

“With everyone watching, you… you actually said it out loud? Shameless! I still have dignity!”

Alarieka took a deep breath. “I said-”

Shi Yao cut in. “I won’t say yes.”

Ignoring the nosy stares, Alarieka strained to stay composed. “I said-”

Shi Yao suddenly sat up, piercing her with a dark glare.

“I get it now.”

Alarieka braced for nonsense. “Get what?”

Shi Yao declared, red-faced and stumbling, “I’ve seen you–you’re my neighbor across the hall. So… you’ve had a thing for me since back then, huh?”

Alarieka: “Buddy, you-”

He flopped back down. “Get out. I said no means no.”

Her gaze turned icy. “Are you even a college grad?
