Chapter 394

She drew a deep breath. After all, sheโ€™d taken his paymentโ€“time to deliver.

Her crimson lips curved as she rose from the chair, clasping Shi Yaoโ€™s hand.

โ€œGrandpa Shi, Iโ€™m sorry. Shi Yao and I lied to you. Weโ€™re not actually a couple.โ€

Grandpa Shi snorted coldly. โ€œI already knew that.โ€

Alarieka smiled. โ€œNo, you didnโ€™t.โ€

Few dared contradict him so directly these days.

Grandpa Shiโ€™s expression darkened as he frowned at her. โ€œWhat did you say?โ€

Shi Yao couldnโ€™t tear his eyes from Alariekaโ€™s profile. His pulse raced, their clasped hands growing slick with sweat as his throat tightened.

He stiffened when he felt movement between their palms.

Their loosely joined hands shifted. He watched Alariekaโ€™s fingers slide deliberately between his, slowly interlacing until their palms pressed flush.

Shi Yaoโ€™s mind blanked. His heartbeat thundered louder than ever before.

Suddenly Alarieka lifted their intertwined hands, her voice ringing clear.

โ€œGrandpa Shi, Iโ€™m the one pursuing him.โ€

Shi Yaoโ€™s thoughts shattered. He couldnโ€™t even feel his own heartbeat anymore.

Grandpa Shiโ€™s brows knitted tighter.

Alarieka beamed with unflinching confidence. โ€œWhen I heard you were pressuring Shi Yao to marry, even arranging a fiancee for him, I suggested pretending to be his girlfriend. I made him bring me here. This was all my selfish motives.โ€

Grandpa Shi narrowed his eyes slightly.

Alariekaโ€™s voice rang out firm and clear: โ€œGrandpa Shi, I regret to inform you that I wonโ€™t give up. Iโ€™ll keep pursuing Victor persistently. I wonโ€™t stand by watching him marry another woman. If you truly force him into marriage with someone else, I wonโ€™t hesitate to sabotage it. Iโ€™d even gladly play the homewrecker. If I end up embarrassing your family, I apologize in advance.โ€

Grandpa Shiโ€™s expression remained unchanged: โ€œMs. Huston, you donโ€™t strike me as that type of person.โ€

Alarieka smiled dismissively: โ€œSince youโ€™ve investigated me, you know my humble background. Some said Iโ€™d remain hopelessly incompetent forever. But look at me nowโ€“donโ€™t I perfectly fit the modern definition of success?โ€

Grandpa Shi offered no rebuttal:

Alariekaโ€™s claim was undeniably valid.

Present-day Alarieka indeed possessed the capital to make such statements.

Alarieka declared: โ€œHereโ€™s the thingโ€“I always achieve exactly what I set out to do.โ€

โ€œI want Victor, and I will have him. Your opposition wonโ€™t change that.โ€

Grandpa Shiโ€™s gaze darkened as he slowly appraised her: โ€œYoung lady, youโ€™ve got nerve. But courage and your current assets alone wonโ€™t let you challenge the Shi family.โ€

โ€œThen what if you add me into the equation?โ€

Victorโ€™s voice cut through abruptly, low and raspy.

Alarieka felt his hand tighten fiercely around hers.

Victor suddenly turned to face her directly.

Alarieka: ?

Unless mistaken, wasnโ€™t Victorโ€™s gazeโ€ฆ burning with intensity? As if his eyes were about to glue themselves to her.

She glanced at the base of his ears.

Unsurprisingly, theyโ€™d flushed crimson.

โ€œAlarieka, I never realizedโ€ฆ you felt this way about me.โ€

Alarieka opened her mouth, then closed it. Hidden from Grandpa Shiโ€™s view, her eyes flickered with suspicion.

Was this guy actingโ€ฆ or dead serious?

Victorโ€™s throat tightened: โ€œAlarieka, listen. You donโ€™tโ€ฆ you donโ€™t need to go this far. Iโ€ฆ have feelings for you too.โ€

With Grandpa Shi still present, Alarieka forced a stiff smile: โ€œWhat are you talking about?โ€

Victor pressed his lips together, his Adamโ€™s apple bobbing: โ€œAlarieka, I promise youโ€“letโ€™s be together. Youโ€™ll be my only girlfriend. No one else. Ever.โ€

Alarieka: ?

Grandpa Shi: ?

Alarieka frantically signaled Victor with her eyes while playing along: โ€œVictor, you donโ€™t have to do this. Take time to think it over-โ€

โ€œNo. Iโ€™m certain Iโ€™m clear-headed.โ€
