She pressed Shi Yaoโs arm, stopping him before he could speak, and answered calmly, โI donโt owe you an explanation. Your son owes me one.โ
Roschelle frowned. โAlarieka, what do you mean?โ
Alaricka looked toward Mr. Argent, smiling. โI wasnโt the only one who saw everything. Mr. Argent was there too. Why doesnโt Mr. Argent tell us what he saw? What really happened?โ
Alarieka knew Mr. Argent was watching her.
He was indeed watching herโฆ though his gaze lingered on her bare shoulders.
Slowly, he shifted his gaze downward to Yuan Yuan.
Kieranโs son noticed his fatherโs gaze, hid behind Rose, and buried his face.
Rose felt her heart skip a beat.
Alarieka felt uncertain.
Kieran had too many past misdeeds, and his favoritism for Rose was unexpected.
She was sure Kieran had seen everything, but wasnโt sure he would speak up about what his son had done for her sake.
Alarieka felt a slight headache, and some irritation welled up inside her.
Kieranโs voice was low and stern: โQiyuan, explain yourself.โ
Qiyuan immediately buried himself in Roseโs arms.
Kieranโs gaze darkened, sharpening his tone: โQiyuan, who taught you to act this spoiled?โ
Alarickaโs brow twitched slightly.
Was Kieran actually siding with her?
Rose couldnโt hold back: โKieranโฆโ
Kieran fixed his eyes on the child in Roseโs embrace, lowering his voice: โQiyuan, this is your final warning. Still disobeying?โ
Qiyuan suddenly burst into loud sobs: โNo! No! Mommy! Mommy!โ
Roseโs heart ached as she held him tighter. โKieran, heโs just a child. Donโt be so harsh. Weโll teach him patiently.โ
By now, even Rose understood the situation.
The tide had turned against her son.
Kieranโs expression remained grave: โRose, let him go.โ
Rose shook her head. โKieran, Qiyuan knows heโs wrong. Look how heโs crying.โ
โHeโs crying from fear, not remorse,โ Kieran stated flatly.
Qiyuan wailed even louder.
Rose pleaded desperately: โKieran, would you really humiliate your own son for an outsider?โ
Kieran frowned.
โExactly.โ
Alarieka had anticipated Wallaceโs arrival.
Qiyuanโs cries echoed through the luxury mansion.
Wallace, who doted on the boy, wouldnโt ignore this.
Seeing him, Rose sighed in relief. โGrandfather, youโre here.โ
Five years had aged Wallace considerablyโhis back hunched, hair fully white. Where he once needed no cane, he now leaned heavily on one. Lips pressed thin, he entered slowly with clouded yet stern eyes.
Alarieka observed silently.
Wallace scanned the room, his gaze lingering longest on Alarieka with deepened intensity.
โYouโve returned.โ
Alaricka smiled faintly. โIndeed, Wallace. Long time no see.โ
Wallace gave a low โhmmโ before shifting his attention to Qiyuanโs tearโstreaked face. His frown deepened as he turned to Kieran.
The cane struck the floor with a heavy thud.
โKieran, have you lost more sense than this old man? How dare you shame my great-grandson for an outsider!โ
Kieran massaged his temples wearily. โGrandfather, you donโt know the full story.โ
โWhat difference does that make?โ Wallaceโs aged voice held steel. โQiyuan is your son. Would you truly undermine his social status before strangers? Youโve lost your mind.โ
Seizing the opportunity, Qiyuan wriggled from Roseโs hold and clung to Wallace.
โGrandfather, it hurtsโฆโ
Wallaceโs eyes softened instantly at the complaint. His wrinkled hand cradled Qiyuanโs shoulder. โWhere does it hurt, dear boy?โ
Qiyuan sniffled pitifully. โI fell earlier. Thatโs why it hurts.โ
โOh dear, where did you fall? Let the maid put on some ointment. Itโll stop hurting soon, my dear boy.โ
Qiyuan Argent nodded obediently: โOkay. With Grandpa comforting me, it doesnโt hurt anymore.โ
Wallace Argent beamed at being needed: โAh, my precious grandson.โ
Kieran Argent started to speak but Wallace shot him a warning glare.
