Erica revealed, “Actually, Andrew didn’t even pay attention to the gossip in Wrastow City.”

Debra was disappointed. She had been expecting drama.

“You don’t know, but this thing spread all over Wrastow City; even people here in Seamar City heard about it. The thing is, Andrew hardly leaves the house, and he doesn’t like reading the news. Even though the Potter family controls intelligence, he couldn’t care less about all this gossip. Later, I don’t know how it happened, but the story just grew bigger and bigger.”

Erica paused, clicking her tongue. “A few years ago, Ms. Buchan came to Seamar City and stayed for two days. She came to find Andrew, and they exchanged a few casual pleasantries, the sort we do at dinner parties. Some reporters saw and hyped it. Then rumors spread without Andrew even knowing.”

“So, nothing was going on between them?”

“Exactly. I thought I’d finally get to see him fall in love, but in the end, nothing happened. The love story I was expecting ended before it even started.”

Debra felt a little regretful. If it were possible, she would love to see what Andrew was like when he was in love with someone.

“Didn’t he like anyone before?”

“As far as I know, none. Since birth, Andrew’s been groomed to be the Potter family heir. I remember visiting them when I was a kid. Andrew was always sitting on the balcony, reading. We’d be playing, and he’d be reading. We’d eat, and he’d still be reading. I thought he was a nerd. But later, I realized his mind worked faster than ours. When the adults mentioned something, he’d know what they’d say next. When he was ten, he was already playing in the stock market. He was a genius.”

“Do you know what happened to his legs?”

“I was too little to know much. But I remember there was a kidnapping case, though his family quickly took down the news. The next year, when we visited them again, Andrew was disabled. No one dared to ask him what had happened.”

Debra felt sorry for Andrew. For a boy, losing his legs was like losing his future.

Erica continued, “The Potter family has made plenty of enemies over the years. It’s the same for our families. I guess it was the retaliation of some cornered rivals. Kidnapping and extortion are common practices. Andrew was just unlucky and got hurt.”

“But with the Potter family’s security system, I doubt anyone could kidnap Andrew.”

“I’m puzzled too, but this is all I know.”
