Chapter 1051
Debra pulled up to the East Dock. To avoid being recognized, she stayed in the car and motioned for Drake to go ahead.
Drake glanced at the row of thugs standing on the dock. His expression darkened. โWhy didnโt you tell me thereโd be so many people?โ
Debra shrugged. โRelax. Most of them are your people. You show up, and theyโll fall in line.โ
Drake was speechless but got a picture of the situation. Many of the thugs bore distinctive tattoos of the Lowe Group. They were undoubtedly traitors who had infiltrated his ranks. Selling his machines without his permission was a serious offense.
He got out of the car and made a quick call before heading toward the group. The leader of the thugs was a burly man in his forties, both of his arms tattooed.
He frowned at the sight of Drake. โWhat is your boss thinking? Sending one guy to pick up the goods?โ
The shipment was an entire boatload of machines. The unloading work alone would need at least twenty workers. Drake had pulled a cap low over his face, making it hard to see his expression.
โAre you dumb? Iโm talking to you. Whereโs your boss? Get her over here.โ The leader reached out, intending to shove Drake.
Drake spoke up. โMy boss sent me to inspect the goods. Sheโs tied up and couldnโt make it.โ
The leader stubbed out his cigarette on the ground. โMike, bring the goods over.โ
โGot it.โ One of the lackeys hurried to the boat with a few others. They soon brought over a crate and set it in front of Drake.
The leader crossed his arms. โThe goods are legit. But if you donโt pay the balance first, youโre not taking them anywhere.โ
Drake opened the crate and inspected the contents. Sure enough, it was filled with slot machines made by the Lowe Group. These machines werenโt available to the public; only company executives could access them.
Drake sneered. So, this was what his trust had earned him. Someone had the audacity to pull off such a shady deal right under his nose.
โWell? Satisfied? If youโre done, call your boss to pay up. Iโve got things to do,โ the leader demanded.
The lackeys echoed his words, their hostility palpable as they glared at Drake.
Drake closed the crate. โHow do I know these are genuine machines? I heard theyโre never sold externally. If these turn out to be fake, my boss will fire me.โ
One of the lackeys stepped forward, puffing out his chest. โDo you even know who youโre talking to? Silas oversees the Lowe Groupโs factory. As long as youโve got cash, we can get you whatever you want.โ
Drake raised an eyebrow under his cap. The leaderโs age suggested he was a long-time employee, likely with over a decade at the company. He was probably one of the trusted men left by the late chairman. Drake had rooted out many of those remnants. But clearly, heโd missed one.
