Chapter 1108

“Robert Fitchett,” Robert confessed, swallowing his pride.

Debra nodded. “Okay, Robert. Were you working for Shawn, just like Marion and the others?”

“Wouldn’t it be better if you asked him directly?”

“Why did you want to kill Marion?”

“You made it difficult for Theda.”

“Is that the reason?” Debra raised an eyebrow. “Well, you care about her so much.”

Robert looked away and said, “She is the best woman I’ve ever met.”

“I’m not interested in your love story. I need you to explain why you risked your life to try and kill Marion.”

“You don’t know?” Robert sneered. “Marion has been thrashing the Buchan Group. He wanted to clear obstacles for you, and you’re telling me you didn’t know?”

Debra frowned. “When did this happen?”

“Since the day you handed the share transfer papers to Theda,” Robert explained. “The Buchan family has been getting crushed. Are you telling me you didn’t know Marion was after the shares? If Theda didn’t hand them over, he would’ve hit her family hard. Her sick mother is now like a hostage to him. You didn’t know any of that?”

Debra recalled how Marion had been out handling wedding matters, always coming and going at odd hours. Now it looked like he hadn’t given up on the shares. In her past life, Marion had given up his overseas assets to come to Seamar City and compete with Juan for power. She had thought it was because Seamar City was important to Marion. She hadn’t ever considered that he might be after the Nichols Group.

Debra retorted, “When Theda and Juan threatened Erica, why didn’t you say anything then? Marion is just using the same tactics—an eye for an eye. Theda’s mother is important to you, and Erica is important to us. In business, there’s no such thing as dirty tactics. It’s all about whether you succeed or not.”

“Theda said the same thing,” Robert sighed. “But I would never let her suffer.”

“Is she going to give up the shares?”

“What else? Who else is cold-blooded like Marion? Don’t think he loves you that much. When he came to Seamar City and approached you, I guess he just knew you were Juan’s wife and wanted to take advantage of your unstable relationship. He probably planned to get you to divorce Juan so that Juan would lose your family’s support. It would be easier for him to step in.”

Robert’s tone was filled with resentment, but Debra was not swayed at all.

“I knew all along that Marion had ulterior motives when he approached me. At first, it was a mutually beneficial relationship. There’s nothing to say about that. But now, he is sincere with me and has done all those things for me. If you’re trying to sow discord between us, I think you’re not very good at it.”

Robert fell silent, and Debra turned to leave, done with her questions.

He quickly called after her, “Wait. You promised you’d give me the antidote.”
