Chapter 139
โMarion, youโฆโ Before Juan could finish, Marion interrupted, โDebra seems to have woken up. Youโre advised to take care of Shelia. Thatโs it.โ He hung up.
Juanโs face darkened; his hand, gripping the phone, turned white. โMr. Nichols,โ the security guard said, โwhy donโt you come another day?โ Juan shot him a cold glance, and the guard fell silent.
Debra woke up in bed. Rubbing her eyes, she groggily asked, โWas there a phone call just now?โ Marion picked up the newspaper again, calmly saying, โNo, you were dreaming.โ
Debra was puzzled. She distinctly heard the phone ring while she was asleep. Is it all a dream? Rubbing her temples, she reached for her phone on the bedside table, noticing a missed call from Juan. Frowning, she wondered, Is Juan awake?
Just then, Erica came out of the kitchen and called, โDebra, wake up and have breakfast!โ
โAlright,โ Debra replied, setting her phone aside.
The next day, she received a drafted divorce agreement from her lawyer. In the evening, she returned to the Nichols family house.
Sophie joyfully greeted her. โMadam, youโre finally back!โ Noticing Debraโs injuries, Sophie exclaimed in shock, โMadam, how did you get so many wounds?โ
โWhere is Juan?โ
โHeโฆโ Before she could finish, Juan descended the stairs. His fast recovery reassured Debra.
Entering the living room, Debra instructed Sophie, โSophie, I need to talk to Juan. Please go clean the yard.โ
โYes, Madam.โ Sophie glanced worriedly at Debra and then at Juan.
Juan sat at the dining table, calmly eating dinner without once looking at Debra. Debra took out the divorce agreement from her bag and placed it in front of him.
โIโve had a divorce agreement drafted by my lawyer. Please sign it.โ
Juan paused, raising his head to look at Debra coldly. โDivorce?โ
Debra remained unperturbed. โYes.โ
Juan stood up and approached her aggressively. โWho allows you to draft a divorce agreement?โ
โSince we both donโt like each other, why force ourselves to stay together?โ
โDonโt like each other?โ
Juan was enraged, veins popping on his forehead. โWasnโt it you who followed me, begging me every day to marry you?โ
Thinking back to those days, Debra felt foolish. She replied, โThat was all in the past. Since you donโt like me, why should I waste my time with you?โ
โWho told you that?โ
โI know you like Shelia, so Iโm stepping aside now, letting you be with her.โ
โDebra!โ Juan forcefully pushed Debra against the wall, his eyes cold and stern. โStepping aside? Letting me be with her? What do you take me for? An object? To be taken and discarded as you feel like it?โ
Debra furrowed her brow. โThatโs not what I meant.โ
Juan took another step forward, his voice filled with anger. โWhat do you mean then?โ
โIโฆโ
โDid you discuss it with me?โ
Debra, annoyed, said, โEven if we divorce, I can ensure the projects with the Frazier family will continue.โ
