Chapter 15
Juan frowned, wondering why Debra was willing to forgo the chance to be alone with him. He suspected she would be angry if he went to see Shelia. โArenโt you taking Shelia to the hospital?โ she asked, hoping he would leave as soon as possible. She worried Marion would go to bed, and Melody would devise new mischief tomorrow. โEnjoy your meal,โ she said.
Juan glanced at the neatly cleaned plates and felt frustrated. She had gone to such great lengths to keep him home, only to focus on eating.
After Juan left, Debra called Marion. โHey, somethingโs come up. Iโm on my way.โ โNo rush,โ Marion replied. โSee you soon!โ
At his office window, Marion hung up. On the sofa, Randy awoke. โWhereโs Debra? Itโs late.โ โSheโs delayed,โ Marion replied. Randy stretched, a sudden realization dawning. โDonโt tell me youโve been waiting here all day.โ
From the floor-to-ceiling window, he could see the situation outside the gate. Marion curled his lips. Randy gasped. โWhat an eye-opener! Donโt tell me you want to be a warrior of pure love.โ โI can be,โ Marion said.
Randy had never seen that expression on Marionโs face. Heโd always considered love at first sight a fairy tale, never imagining such a scenario involving Marion.
Soon, Debra arrived at the Osborne Group entrance. The security guard scrutinized her. โMs. Frazier?โ โYeah,โ Debra nodded. โThis way, please.โ
The security guard took Debraโs bag and escorted her to the elevator. Debra looked around. The employees should have left, but all the buildingโs lights were still on. It underscored Randyโs wealth.
Randy looked at the lights and grumbled, โDo you know how much it costs to power this for love? Damnโฆโ
โWhat do you mean by โdamn itโ?โ Debra asked, puzzled.
โI mean, I dreamed of a damn animal today, standing next to me all day,โ Randy said. Debra was even more perplexed.
โArenโt you here to find me?โ Marion interjected.
โI just want to ask one thing. Was Aaron trying to buy that piece of land for you?โ
Marion sat down. โWhy do you say so?โ
Debra had her thoughts sorted. Aaron, a powerful entrepreneur worth billions, buying land in a sewage area was illogical. He must be trying to acquire it for Marion.
โIf the land is for commercial use, the sewage must be cleaned up, which is expensive. I guess you wanted it as another channel for money laundering, facilitating the transfer of your overseas assets,โ Debra analyzed.
โBut now the land is in your hands.โ
Marion was baffled. Buying the land for millions would be worthwhile, but ten billion was a huge loss.
โTo be honest, the Frazier family isnโt what it was when my dad was alive. Weโre an empty shell. I need money to circulate, so I have to have that land,โ Debra explained.
