Chapter 153
Debra extended a finger, saying, โOne more thing, spread the word that Tracy will be there to enjoy the masquerade with everyone.โ Randy was puzzled, but Marion understood her intent. Debra fiddled with the badge in her hand. Over the past few months, she had made Tracyโs name well known and shrouded in mystery. It was all for this day.
At the banquet, Juan watched the crowd with no trace of happiness on his face. Joe reported, โIโve had people count. All the major business owners are here, except Tracy.โ Juan hummed indifferently. Joe asked hesitantly, โSir, do you have concerns?โ
Juan remained silent for a moment and asked, โAny moves from the McKinney Group?โ Joe shook his head. โThereโs been no news of them making any moves. Perhaps they know theyโve offended us, so theyโre keeping quiet.โ
Juan frowned, not believing Tracy would just be a sitting duck. His current counterattack was a declaration of sovereignty over Seamar City, and surely Tracy knew that. If Tracy remained silent, his company would become a laughingstock in this circle the next day, and all his previous efforts would be in vain. He wouldnโt be so foolish as to play a game that would backfire.
โKeep a close watch on them and report to me when thereโs any news.โ
โWill do.โ Joe was about to leave when Juan thought of something else. โWhat about Debra?โ As his wife, she should be there tonight.
โThe dress has been sent as per your instructions, but whether Mrs. Nichols will come is uncertain.โ
Just then, the doors to the banquet hall opened. Juan looked up and saw a figure in wine-red. His eyes flickered with complex emotions, but upon seeing the face, he returned to his usual somber state. Shelia wore a burgundy evening gown, with a meticulously styled hairdo and makeup sheโd gotten done at the salon. Her face lit up with a joyful smile when she saw Juan.
Shelia quickly approached and spoke shyly, โAm I late?โ
โWhere did you get this dress from?โ She didnโt receive any tenderness, only Juanโs stern question. Shelia was stunned. โDidnโt you let Joe send it over?โ
Juan glanced at Joe, who hurriedly denied it. He had entrusted the gown to the gatekeeper, mentioning it was for Debra.
โWhat is going on? Isnโt this dress meant for me?โ Tears welled up in Sheliaโs eyes. Juan looked at Sheliaโs elaborate makeup, and an image of Debra involuntarily flashed through his mind. He looked away, not comforting her as usual.
