Chapter 161
Debra was surprised. โYour birthday? You never mentioned it before.โ
Andrew interjected with a smile, โHe has never cared for birthdays, nor has he ever invited friends over. Itโs late and inconvenient for you two to go home. Why not stay overnight at our place? You can leave after the birthday party tomorrow.โ His gaze held a peculiar intensity that made Debraโs heart skip a beat. The masquerade would be held tomorrow, and badges had been delivered to all influential business owners. She wondered if Andrew suspected her involvement with the McKinney Group. She quickly dismissed the thought, reassuring herself that she had been meticulous in concealing her identity. There was no way Andrew could know.
Erica chimed in, โI think thatโs a good idea, Debra. If weโre at the Pottersโ, Juan wonโt dare call you back in the middle of the night or try to take you away by force. Letโs go.โ
Debra nodded in agreement, her mind still preoccupied with the upcoming masquerade. Jordanโs face lit up with joy. โIโll have someone prepare the guest rooms. My house is spacious, and Iโll show you around tomorrow.โ Debra had a feeling Andrew seemed to know something. She looked up and coincidentally met his eyes. They were unfathomable and seemed to hold eternal ice, making her feel uneasy.
As they arrived at the Potter family residence, Debra marveled at its grandeur. They had been there before for the jewelry banquet, but with the hall cleared, the sheer size of the house became apparent. The Potters were a century-old clan, their wealth immense and their influence far-reaching.
โSir,โ a maid approached Jordan. โAre the guest rooms ready?โ
โYes, as per Mr. Andrew Potterโs instructions. If Ms. Frazier and Miss Mathis donโt like the decor, we can rearrange it.โ
Jordan was puzzled. โMy brother instructed you to do this?โ
Debra overheard the exchange, and a sense of unease washed over her. Andrew had ordered the rooms to be prepared in advance, which meant he had intended for her and Erica to stay the night. But why? Her mind raced with possibilities.
She turned around and found Andrew sitting right behind her, his presence imposing. She stumbled back, startled. โMr. Andrew Potter.โ
Andrew chuckled. โRelax, Ms. Frazier. Iโm not a beast.โ
โYeah,โ Erica muttered, โbut heโs close.โ
Andrew continued, โTomorrow is Jordanโs birthday, and he doesnโt have many friends. Since todayโs events involved Juan, I presumed you wouldnโt wish to return home, so I had the rooms prepared in advance. Please donโt overthink it.โ
Erica interjected, her voice filled with gratitude, โYouโre always so thorough, thinking one step ahead. How could we possibly overthink? We should thank you for your hospitality.โ
Andrew nodded slightly, while Debra pondered how much of it was true. In any case, she always took things with a pinch of salt. Andrew must know something.
โLetโs go upstairs,โ Erica urged.
Jordan, eager to play the host, asked, โGoing to sleep already? There are plenty of leisure and entertainment areas in our house. How about I show you around?โ
